Assassin's Creed and Prince of Persia series get some 'breathing room' photo

Assassin's Creed was a hotly anticipated title last year, and it's no secret that some gamers were disappointed with the final result. It seems Ubisoft is well aware of the mixed reception to the game, per recent comments made by Ubisoft North American President Lauren Detoc to Forbes about bringing the series back when "there will be more anticipation for it."

Detoc also mentioned Prince of Persia, addressing the absence of games from the series in recent years, saying "As we get bigger, we can give it more breathing room." Also interesting ... I have enjoyed the little bit of Prince of Persia I have played, and I would be very interested to see where Assassin's Creed could go with some attention to the details that bothered gamers about the first title. Would you play a sequel?

The Assassin's Creed series has alot of potential. If they fix up the flaws from the first game, I'll definitely check out the sequel. The story wasn't half bad either.

I'm enjoying my copy of Assassin's Creed, in spurts and doses. Its very pretty and as people have always said, the main parkour-ish mechanic of the game is pretty slick. Plus concealed blade kills are very satisfying.

I'd be very interested in a sequel soon, if only to see the mechanic work in a different world. Modern, near-modern, a new location for the Altair character/era, etc.

Overall, it just feels very "Achievement-y", if that makes any sense to anyone. I'm hoping there are some basic world/environment improvements in the inevitable sequel.

There was a lot to like in the first AC, and I am ready for the sequel whenever I can get my hands on it.

I really liked Assassins Creed. Can't wait for another one.

@Tubatic
There's alot of evidence that seems to support the next Assassin's Creed being in Japan, which means even more potential!

The new Prince of Persia can never be better than Prince of Persia: The Game of the movie.

I eagerly anticipate another Assassin's Creed, I loved the first one and had a ton of fun with it.

I didn't like the first Assassin's Creed . . . I think the fact that it had so much potential made it worse! I would definitely buy a new one if they could fix the big issues, namely:
-Tighter Controls that make me feel like I'm controlling the character instead of just giving him a nudge in the right direction
-GamePlay that doesn't feel like it was generated by a "Mission Machine"
-Assassinations with a bit more of that "Hitman" variety of approaches/stealthiness judgement to them

i'm kind of surprised they're holding back on AC 2, since quite a few people bought the first one and the majority liked it, despite it's flaws (myself included). that said, take all the time you need Ubi to make an even better sequel.

I loved Assassin's Creed. The setting was almost unbeatable, but as much as I loved it, I'd hate for them to stay attached to Desmond's memory of Altair.
I'm much more intrigued with the possible Japanese and Mayan settings, than a rehash of the last.

As long as they address the monotony of missions and add things to do even after the game is beaten (besides flags), then there's no way I'd be upset. I'm talking about much more than just the few additions they added to the PC version.

Now, with that said, if they were to re-release Assassin's Creed with whatever improvements they create for the sequels, I'll buy ten copies of it. The third crusade was such a great setting.

I loved the first AC but I also understand a lot of people problems with it. I'm excited to see what they do with the next one and if these issues get resolved.

Either way, bring on the awesome.

Even though the first Assassin's Creed was disappointing and highly repetive, it did a lot of things right, and I would really love to see the sequel soon because otherwise the cliffhanger ending is just going to piss me off.

I enjoyed AC as well. There were a lot of things wrong with it, repetitive missions structure for one, but overall they did more things right than they did wrong.

And I never experienced any of the wacky glitches that many (especially Workman) posted here on Dtoid.

yeah I rather have them leave some time in between 2 games, unlike COD-series, so they can truly innovate in between 2 games...

Assassin's Creed was the best terrible game I've ever played. With 6-12 months more development time I'm positive they could have made that game pretty to really good. I would be interested in a sequel for sure, but only if they spend the requisite time on doing it right.

I liked Assassin's Creed but it seemed like they spent far more time just working on the (stellar) mechanics rather than on interesting situations to use them. An AC with a greater variety in missions (and maybe more difficult combat) would be nice.

why does everyone go so apeshit over the 'parkour' aspect of the game. its not like theres any technique to it. all u have to do is close u eyes, hold A and forward, and the next thing u know youve jumped across a few rooftops and climbed to the top of a building. OMG TEH MEDIUM HAZ EVOLVZORD :OOO

I really rather enjoyed Assassin's Creed. I don't honestly know where all this hate and revilement comes from, must be one of those games it's cool to hate on. Yes it got a bit repetitive if you were going for every mission and collecting every flag but what game doesn't? In the vast majority of games out there you're really just repeating the same actions over and over.

I liked AC but a little breathing room sounds perfect to me. There is no need to rush into a sequel.

Also, I agree with Dr. Nutt, the sequel had better address that cliff hanger ending from the original or I'll go apeshit.

I hope that already having a strong engine to run a sequel on will help Assassin's Creed 2's story and missions to be much more satisfying.

The only reason I think most people were disappointed with Assassin's Creed is because they managed to build their expectations pretty high. What they got was, as far as I can tell, a good game -- but they were expecting an awesome game. I think the sequel will probably be received better, and they'll hopefully fix what people said was broken.

I'm in the middle of Assassin's Creed right now, and I'm really digging it despite the repetitiveness.

@ Mxyzptlk Just wait until the home stretch, now that shit is annoying. OK, the missions were bearable for a while, but by the end, I was forcing myself to finish it. I wanted to stay in the future for say, the entire game. Give me Desmond action in the same vein as Neo's "escape" from the office in the first Matrix and I will be a happy panda.

I loved AC. I can't wait for the sequel. However if they go for the same setting I'd be pretty pissed off.

I'm pretty pumped for the new Prince of Persia too.

I liked Assassin's Creed despite all of it's obvious pitfalls. While I outlined them all in detail in my personal review here on Dtoid, I still enjoyed what it had to offer.

I only ever played the second PoP (at least from the last gen) and liked it well enough. I didn't play the third but am hotly anticipating the recently announced one.

Glad to see Ubisoft isn't outright raping every one of their franchises like some of their competitors, too.
