Word on the street is that a little game called Assassin’s Creed 2 snuck onto retail shelves this morning alongside Left 4 Dead 2. A quick look at the launch teaser for the successor to the original Assassin’s Creed confirms said word on the street.

Most critics have been talking up the latest Ubisoft title, stating that it offers more complex and differentiated content than its predecessor. I find that to be a soothing point. I became mad bored and frustrated with the original’s cycle of missions.

Yet, while I trust my bros, I still haven’t played the game. But you guys have, right? What do think about this latest title? Is it better than the original? Worth that coin? Discuss this thing. Tell us what you think of it.

AC2 is SO much better than the first. Not that the first was bad. Repetitive missions were really annoying though. Rare case that the sequel turns out better than the first. But there was a considerable amount of room to improve.

i was a bit hesitant as to whether or not this would be that much better than the original, but it has not disappointed, everything that the original had has been improved upon, such as rewarding more for exploration, smoother controls, and overall gameplay mechanics are incredibly well done, making this a no question buy

If the PC version was out, I'd be happy to give my input.

I'm still hesitant on this one, the first one certainly was spotty.

It has its flaws (constantly breaking in and out of gameplay to start missions/interactions, clipping issues, weirdly shaped character models), but it definitely has its charms too. Ezio climbs faster and more smoothly, which greatly increases the amount you can play before you feel the need to stab someone in the neck in real life. And this time both narratives (both in the present and in in the 15th century, not to mention how they interact via glyphs) actually seem to matter. Someone in another review wrote, and I thought it was a great point, that Ezio's story is his own. It's about him life and his family, and that actually makes it quite interesting. It is also interesting to me that Ezio seems to be more morally ambiguous. I mean I know Altair pickpocketed and killed Guards constantly, but Ezio's hiring hookers, killing guards just to get codex pages and treasures, and stabbing motherfuckers multiple times in the chest with his hidden blade. And when you do kill a handful of guards in the street the citizens will talk about how sad and horrific it is.

Not to mention Ezio's outfit is infinitely cooler than Altair's and there's something to be said for feeling like a pimp while playing.

I've only played a few hours, but I can already tell that at the very least, it's an improvement over the first. I'll have to play more to find out how much more of an improvement though.

At the least, it has more missions and improved freerunning which alone would have made me pleased, but the addition of an economy and a personal story make it even better. Especially that last part. One reason I got bored with AC1 in the final hours of the game was because I finally realized that I still didn't understand why I was still fighting. In AC2, I feel like I'm fighting, sneaking, and jumping around for a reason, and it's not a poorly written or narrated reason either.

I picked this up today, but am going to wrap it up for Christmas. I've have too many other games to play right now.

1. MW2
2. DAO
3. Borderlands
4. UC2
5. Brutal Legend (still in the package)

All of those 3 for 2 deals really did the trick for selling me.

Even as a huge fan of the series, I've been mainly a fan of the actual idea of it... I didn't like the repetivity of AC1 that much. I just played my MA preorder however and after some boring beginning missions I got into the good stuff and I'm impressed. I hadn't had a single same mission yet at all actually and everything flows to the story of Ezio. Not just "Go kill 9 dudes, you can rest here and cry in a corner in the bueraus, knock yourself out". Good game!

i still think the animus is a cop out for lazy cinematics. everything cuts in and out. i mean irrelevant shit, sure cut out PLEASE (and they have) but i feel like his families "tragedy" was rushed. i know its the beginning of the game and the animus is part of the games contrast style between history and future.

I like the new crowd blend mechanic. The multiple weapons choices you have are cool (Even though you have to have the right angle on the weapon to pick it up from a downed enemy.) All around better than the first. I really liked the first, but it's flaws were pronounced. This may earn a permanent space in my collection, like GTA4, Street Fighter 4, and Uncharted 2.

Personally I like AC2 better. I'll be honest though and say that I never finished AC first. However I felt like I couldn't control the first game as well as this one (although that could have been because I was playing on the SD tv of DOOM).

There's alot more humor in the second game too. I actually found myself laughing out loud at one point which was not what I was expecting.

I'm enjoying the shit out of it, especially the new assassination moves. I've been up staying up all night diving onto people, yanking them off ledges, etc. My favorite so far is probably the double hidden blade kill.

Everything about this game is great. Storyline is good and the side missions are downright fascinating, especially the codex pages and "the Truth". If I were to list everything I like about it I'd need a blog of my own -- just not enough room here.

Also, when his mom references vagina...

too funny.

I am enjoying the shit out of this game.

Assassins Creed 2 is hard on the eyes in HD.
Of course, I just came off playing Borderlands, Uncharted 2 and Modern Warfare 2...as well as finally checking out Fallout 3. All those games have great graphics, so the fact the graphics in AC2 are about the same quality as the original game from 2 years ago was a bit more glaring for me (what was great looking then is okay looking now).

I'm only about 2 or 3 hours in, but the character still has trouble jumping the right way off ledges when you're in a hurry or not quite climbing right in spots...exactly like in the first. You can deal with it, but you're going to have plenty of pissed off moments due purely from the controls.
The walking animations on Elzier (or however you spell it) are really...well, really gay. But so were Altier's. (Yeah, I know I probably spelled his name wrong too. Sue me)
He swings his hips more than Marilyn Monroe. Yeah, I don't know why I just made an ancient reference like that, either. Well, other than the guy walks like chicks did in the 40's and 50's in movies.

And the face animations are pretty bad. So early on most the complaints are graphical. If you can look past that and still live with some controlling quirks, the same way you had to so you could enjoy the good parts of the first, story is deeper so far and there is a bit more variety.
And much more climbing.
Still feels like it lacks polish, but not as bad as the first. I'd warn anyone to rent first. It's fun and the plot and acting are great, but lots of flaws, still more flaws than the average game.

I like both games equally. I was never bothered by the repetitive nature of AC1 - in many ways I found it comforting. Also, I miss the 'rescue thief' missions from AC1 and some of the dry humour in much of the dialogue - AC2 takes itself a bit too seriously for my liking. But all-in-all, AC2 is a more polished product with a lot more variation in play. Hopefully AC3 will retain what's best about the franchise.
