I don't feel the game is lacking in content per se, but I don't appreciate these dlc shenanigans. They would have to really offer something awesome for me to give them any money for it. Even if it was something bitching rad ass awesome I probably wouldn't buy it.
AC2 was fun but this move is just disappointing.
No. Bye. No Buy.
Agreed on all accounts.
Special Message to Jim:
Look, I understand that you really didn't like the game. I get it. And that's cool. you are entitled to your opinion. But I liked it. And so did many other people. In fact, (and I hate using metacritic as a reference here but...) you seem to be in the minority on this one.
You can stand up on your soapbox and try to tell all of us who enjoyed AC2 that we are wrong because Jim Sterling didn't like so therefore it is garbage. Or, you can get off your high-horse, put aside your self-righteousness and just leave it be. Because you aren't convincing me or anyone else who really enjoyed playing the game that our experience was wrong because you said so.
I don't mean to come off as an asshole and am sorry if I do. And generally I like your posts and find your particular sense of humor fucking hilarious.
But seriously dude, move on, most of us have.
Making the end of Prince of Persia DLC was bogus. Katamari DLC was bogus. Frankly, Fallout 3's Broken Steel was bogus--charging money to fix design problems like "The level cap is too low" and "Finishing the main story means you can't play anymore" aren't acceptable. But this? This is fine.
Also, I don't think I agree with developers who feel the need to continually "support" a game post-launch with additional content. I know the PC crowd is used to this kind of thing, and for multiplayer, it makes sense. But (hypothetically) you wouldn't see filmmakers "supporting" their vision by just adding on stuff post-release. (Director's cuts are more about restoring the director's vision, theoretically, when not confined under studio standards, and so can't be compared directly with what gamemakers do.) Just something that rubs me the wrong way, that no game these days can stand on its own merit and must be constantly updated and "corrected" and added-onto.
On a completely separate note, I absolutely hate paid DLC. Expansions are OK. Dragon Age & The Saboteur's day-one DLC were not. Left4Dead's Crash Course on the 360, was not OK.
I pretty much agree with Jim, is what I'm saying.
d) If removing those levels meant that the development team had more time to polish the rest of the game
OH yes OHHHHHHH SOOOO POLISHED. Things magically appearing less then a foot in front of you. Look guys! Ezzios a magician! Watch me make this texture appear!! Aba fucking cadabra
I've got no great love for Ubisoft and I'm on a hard boycott of Assassin's Creed 2 in particular, but this sort of nonsense from you is unacceptable. From the posts that follow your articles you clearly have a following of sheep who don't fully understand what they're reading about even when it is written to mislead and enrage them. Shape up, this isn't what journalism looks like. Not even pretend journalism.
Also...if I read it correctly, he's stating that the content wasn't finished, and rather than rushing to finish it, they opted to refine other aspects of the game instead. That's a lot different than saying that you took finished content out of a game bc you knew you could sell it separately, isn't it?
But the path to the Dark Side of the DLC is far too easy to take.
Listen to Yoda, Ubisoft, it's not too late.
I don't care if it "feels like a complete game" these a difference between feeling and knowing. Even as lameshit as Bioware's excuse for piecemealing out content was, at least they had the dignity to lie about why they were doing it.
I lul'd.
It's nice to be on the outside of the thread looking in and just laughing for a change. :P
Moving on.
Thats right kiddies, they might just have tiered pricing.
Retail copy --- $60
Retail copy with DLC to complete the game that was developed --- $70
Retail copy with DLC and collectors edition content --- $80
Retail copy with DLC CE and expansion (which is a key unlock for content already on the disc --- $90.
Haha.... fuck you now your new games for everything on the disc cost $90.
That is wrong.
totally fucking awesome man. I'm glad someone else realizes the POLISHED excuse is pure BULLSHIT.
The day I stop playing videogames.
Also, fuck them. What the hell are they getting at, acting like they're doing some sort of service to gamers by not offering them something on the disc they paid for? Ugggh.
You don't like it, you feel ripped off? Go right ahead and boycott Ubi.
But when I look at the pricing, what I got from my game and what I would get for (I assume) ten bucks DL, it's fairly priced.
Cry about it all you want, but this is a business and I don't see them as ripping people off. They have found a structure fair to consumers and getting more money to developers, since they receive all the money (minus the console's cut) for their work, as opposed to all those "gamers" out there who either don't understand or don't care that renting and buying used doesn't help the developers at all.
You wanted to rent? Wanted to save that extra ten bucks on a used price? Well, here's what you get. DL has to happen to survive the stores who rip off the actual makers of games.
DL is artist friendly. Stop being so cheap. You were doing well enough in life to afford the TV, the broadband the console AND the game? Your cheap butt can manage to find ten bucks if you really like that game and truly want more.
Try not eating some fast food for one day. There's the money.
Since so many people buy off steam with Valve, they saw all the profit, similar to how much a developer sees off DL on 360 or PSN.
And sure, once they are in the black, they can kick back and afford to take the time to give people freebies.
But since Ubi is mainly at retail where too many rent and buy used to the point they are lucky to break even before DL comes out, they can't spend the time giving freebies.
They DO have to pay people for working, you know.
If the day comes that all games could sell directly to it's customers like steam, you'll see everyone giving more freebies, too. But that's not where the world is at now. PC is tiny in the industry financially for the bigger companies.
Bring on the DLC, even if it is just unlock keys for something on the disc or not I'll still cough up a little more cash.
