Although we had heard that Assassin's Creed 2 DLC was on the way, details were scarce. Now we have more than just names, with Ubisoft dropping full details and prices on all our monkey asses.
The Battle of Forli will be the first piece of content, released in early January for the reasonable price of $3.99. It will involve Machiavelli and Caterina Szorza fighting alongside Ezio to protect a piece of Eden from the Orsi Brothers and the Templars. It contains six new missions, one of which will use the flying machine that players controlled briefly during the main campaign.
Bonfires of the Vanities is planned for late February and costs $4.99. This will open up a sector of Florence previously roped off (yes they closed off part of the game to sell it you later, it seems) and revolves around the monk Savonarola. Ezio will be eliminating this tasty monk's gang over the course of ten missions, armed with a new spring-jump move.
Seems like a good batch of content for an awesome game. Assassin's Creed 2 was a damn fine title and I'm totally stoked about getting back into Italy for some murdering shenanigans. I literally cannot wait.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
That's what I thought when I saw this. Sounds pretty sketchy.
ITS A PHONY
A BIG FAT PHONY
Well, in my case rented, I'm quite enjoying it to be honest, but I won't be buying the DLC unless I finish the game and it the dLC comes out, by saturday.
Woo, IGN's game of the year! Too bad my friend already goozexed it; game isn't worth more then one playthrough anyway.
Because of that review i stopped loving you Jim.
But only for a few minutes.
I think (or at least I hope) this isn't an issue where they roped off a section of the game to sell it later. In the video where Patrice explains the DLC he says something along the lines of (and I'm paraphrasing), "We knew we were going to have two DLC packs, and here they are." Maybe that implies they left space in the game's timeline to fill it in with extra plot later (just because there are two memory segments missing in the game doesn't mean they removed them; it allows for continuity in terms of the game's presentation) or maybe they're ripping everyone off, but I like the guy's beard and it's only $10 more to add to a game I bought for $35.
It's hard to type with one hand and masturbate with the other.
Feel free to never come back once you've looked up in the Encyclopedia of SERIOUS BUSINESS what a sense of humour is.
I'll be grabbing these most likely, hell any excuse to get in the flying machine again.
I didn't know Dragon Age did that. I might be more inclined to get it now.
"Ah, the joys of being charged extra for something on the disc you already purchased."
There is inherent ignorance in these mindsets. One I imagine is adopted because people want to hate... but here's a scenario you probably choose to not think up.
Every game has a ship date. Very few developers (Valve, Blizzard) have the luxury of postponing a game until it's finished, everyone else has to make it work before the submit date.
If a developer can't say "Doh, it's not done yet, so it won't be released on ____" then often things get "cut" (that's an industry term~). These areas could have been cut.
Or it is equally possible that while production was happening the ideas for these scenarios came in through Design and just weren't capable of being put in the game due to time constraints and scheduling, but were anticipated to be the DLC content.
To be fair, it is equally as possible that the DLC was a part of the initial plan after all. I mean it is a LOT of effort to make a game, especially a triple A title like this (seriously, having a total of 450 developers with more than 200 working on it at once is insane) and DLC offers a method to expand profit potential using an already existing tool chain that everyone just spent a year+ working with. It's becoming a common trend nowadays and EA has even said that they view pirates as a market to tap saying to the effect of "you can't pirate DLC." This could very well be fitting to their plan to create games with an incentive for pirates to purchase.
But it was stated that each episode of DLC content will take up about a gig each, so leave some room for them if you want them. It is specifically not a part of the game that was locked and you have to pay to play it on the disc you already purchased.
THIS is destructoids official Assasins Creed 2 review, 9.5
Also, this unlock code as DLC bullshit is, well, bullshit. Count me out.
Call me biased or a fanboy, whatever just stop being suck damn conspiracy theorists
What would be the difference if future DLC is on the disc or simply sitting on a computer at the developers and shown later on the marketplace? It will still be the same content that you can have for a certain price.
Just because DLC is being planned along with games these days, it's not being "left off", as though you would have had it anyway if LIVE didn't exist.
Look at both Dragons Age and Assassins Creed 2. You're saying the core game isn't there? That 60 bucks worth of content (assuming you buy it new) wasn't there?
The amount of game for the price WAS there. If a developer choosing to have you buy another chunk that goes beyond, that's their right.
Again, you were never entitled. The game you bought is the game they chose to give you. Besides, with so many people renting and buying used, DLC is the best way for the developers to receive pure profit.
Wouldn't it be a nice world where the artist was the one receiving more reward for their creation?
DLC is not ripping people off and gamers who complain that it is come off sounding more like spoiled brats throwing a tantrum who don't understand the business world and surviving in it than consumers looking to be treated fairly.
Me, I liked AC2, so I'll buy the DLC because if it comes in at 800 points for each, what they say is in there sounds like a fair price.
Don't like it, don't buy.
You're saying that, as concumers, we're not entitled to the shit we already own? I don't know why I asked that question; that's exactly what you're saying.
The difference between the content sitting in a computer in a dev's office and it being on a disc that you have already bought, is that, if it's on the disc, YOU ALREADY FUCKING OWN THE CONTENT. You are entitled to the contents of that disc because it and everything on it was sold to you for $60.
Thanks Ubisoft. Can we have more annoyingly half-done open world games?
