Assassin's Creed 2 developer diary photo

Ubisoft has just released a developer diary for Assassin's Creed 2. In it they focus on the new protagonist, Ezio, another of Desmond's ancestors. There's also a fair bit of the plot included so, if you plan on going in completely cold, you may want to shy away a little bit.

I'm hoping this sequel can overcome the massive shortcomings in Assassin's Creed because the series has a great concept. I honestly want to know more about the character of Desmond and what's going on in his world that he's tied to a chair reliving the exploits of his ancestors. But if I'm going to have to slog through another lengthy series of repetitive, simplistic missions, then forget it.

The developer diary is after the jump. I get the feeling that Ezio's tale is much more intricate than Altair's was, don't you? Here's hoping Ubisoft can deliver.

This was the biggest disappointment for me at E3. Instead of fixing the things that didn't work in the original, they're tagging on other crap that's making the strong points, weak. The first one was repetitive, but it did a lot things right. The sequel is destroying all that.

Whoa, that's the first time hearing about that for me R3y. That sucks.

So what happened after the first game? Did they decide, "you know what? We still don't have enough information as to where the Pieces of Eden are, so where going to strap Desmond back on the Animus and fast forward it a couple hundred years to get more information the exact location of the Pieces of Eden."

Definitely sounds like Ezio has been given more characterisation than Altair, which can only be a good thing. Now if only Desmond would get the same treatment...

I don't know what game you saw at e3 r3y, but everything I hear about this game is them taking steps to make what was bad about the first game better. I want this so bad, holiday 2009 my ass ubisoft, commit to a real date!

I'd love for the key assassination to be more like well thought out hits rather than boss encounters with rubbish dialogue at the end.

I didn't think that the first game conveyed the feeling of being an assassin very well.

If they deliver on the promise of easier assassination controls I'm all for it. A lot of people I speak to almost never got a clean quick assassination as was advertised in earlier trailers because they were relatively hard to pull off, they would almost always engage in a fight with 5-6 guards before they got to the target.

I always meticuously planned my assasination so I could get in with a flying kill or run really fast up to a guy without them noticing me and finishing the job. THAT'S the Assassins Creed experience to me and I feel they maybe made it too hard to pull of in the original game, quite in contrast with the relatively easy controls.

So yeah I'm all for it! I even ordered the Black Edition because I'm that much an idiot for plastic and other crap.
