Asia Game Show beats out TGS, gamescom in attendance photo

gamescom 2011 attendance: 275,000

Tokyo Game Show 2011 attendance: 222,668 (largest attendance on record!)

Asia Game Show 2011 attendance: 472,000

Folks, we have a winner! The Asia Game Show, held in Hong Kong over Christmas, broke records, with 472,000 attendees packing the halls over the four days of the event. The AGS attendance is almost as big as the two other largest shows combined!

And it wasn't a total dudefest, says Gamasutra. There was an increase of female visitors this year, with 30 percent of attendees counted as women.

I bet E3 would have attendance in the millions if it was a public trade show. Just sayin'

It would seem that an event bringing in most of Asia as opposed to one limited to primarily Japanese developers would bring in more attendance to begin with. Nice to see that the Asian game industry isn't "dead", like many naysayers would have you believe :)

GAMING IS A MAINSTREAM FORM OF ENTERTAINMENT IN TODAY'S SOCIETY, WHY DO WE STILL GIVE A SHIT IF WOMEN PLAY THE VIDYA, IT'S NOT LIKE YOU'D STALK A GIRL BECAUSE SHE LIKES THE SAME MOVIE AS YOU, C'MON GUYS /caps

But in all due seriousness I don't see why this had to be mentioned, but whatever.

@Mark Mann:

Probably because female attendance was only 30%, and that's with an increase. The video game INDUSTRY (not the audience) is dominated by males. I believe it is worthwhile to mention that women are becoming a bigger presence among developers.

30% out of 472,000 is a lot of people, also I was referring to the audience, but with the rapid growth of the video game industry, I don't see it being dominated by males for long.

Well of course! How can a billion Chinese people be wrong? :)

That's not even a fair comparison. The difference in population between Japan and China is way too steep.

@ Shinkenmaru
There wasn't that many mainland Chinese at the show actually. The majority of the people there were from Hong Kong.

It's funny how AGS has basically turned into a Sony-fest. Microsoft and Nintendo has no presence whatsoever there. Sony literally takes over more than 1/2 of the floorspace.

I also think the fact it was only $4 entry helped alot... alot of the big (Sony) developers were there and the queues were not too long. Also alot of (Sony) stuff to buy with alot of (Sony) freebies.

It's not "biggest in relation to local population", just "biggest".

Well yeah, we all knows that the future biggest game market will be in asia. Namely China. Especially with the US and Europe going downhill fast.

Means it's soon over with those call of dutys and back for more JRPG/KMMOs/MH/Musou Games. What is good in my book. :D

@Cudgeon: As PT Barnum once said, "No one went broke underestimating public taste." With income steadily pouring straight into Activision, EA and the like's grubby little hands, I don't see the big CoD's, Battlefields, and Maddens going anywhere close to downhill soon. Which is actually kind of good in my book, because while I don't like those franchises at all, it means the publishers have more money to publish more interesting titles.
