As promised, New Super Mario Bros. Wii box is fancy photo

A final retail copy of New Super Mario Wii arrived today, and as promised, the box is fancy.

Unlike the normal, boring white boxes that most Wii games come in, New Super Mario Wii will hit shelves in a red box. It's accented by the game's fancy cover art, which while also in red, also features the Wii logo in a foiled silver. I repeat -- totally fancy.

To give you an idea of how not fancy this could have been, I put the art sleeve into a plain old vanilla Wii box. You can see that after the jump. If they had done that, there's no way it anyone would have bought this thing. Am I right?

Looks damn sexy... but it's going to be totally out of place on your shelf.

A cool looking case is all well and good, but is it a good game?!

Oh, no, but a red box just won't go, especially not next to all the white and, gulp, green boxes on my shelf.

That picture of Mario and Luigi on the inside, standing side-by-side ready to take on Goombas, Koopa Troopas and maybe even a Lakitu or two - TOGETHER - gets me SO PUMPED! Day one purchase for me.

I know the red box is just a killer psychological trick.

I know this.

But I still want the game more because of it.

Fancy box is fancy. I also like the art on the disc. Christmas can't come fast enough, I want this game so bad!

Ooo, that IS fancy. I'm digging the red box! The Mario and Luigi manual cover is badass too.

Both versions actually look nice but the red version still wins out.

Quite frankly, I wouldn't care if New Super Mario Bros. Wii came packaged in a cardbox box.I can't wait to pick this game soon.

The white box actually provides a nice border and applies extra focus to the color/font of the game title, but the red box still does pop more. And when it's viewed on a shelf with a ton of other white wii boxes, well there's no question it will pop

Nintendo figured out that color is one of the most important psychological marketing tools to consumer attraction to a product.

White = Purity, cleanliness, and safety.

Red = life & energy (movement & excitement). It's also said to be the color of what the human eye first looks at.

Looks pretty good! Not the reason I'm buying the game, of course, but still, it's nice.

Actually more into the red and white one. The red on red reminds me of some cheap plastic toy whereas the red on white one happens to work just as well but also has a border around it, and happens to be Japan's colors. The overall balance of red on white is just better.
Whatev. Unless they somehow made this game absurdly long, it's a rental for me anyway.

Um ... it's Super Mario and it's on the Wii. Exactly what were you expecting the cover ot be like?

Besides, it will help it to stand out from all of the waggle-ware and shovel-ware that dominated the poor, little console.

They shoulda done a re-enactment of the box art from the original [i]Super Mario Bros.[/url] with Fire Mario falling diagonally flanked by the other important characters.

Non-white box will generate tons of free publicity via blogs. I've already seen half a dozen articles about that box in the past few days. The return on investment for the .001 cents for the red plastic is ginormous.

Looks amazing, but we all know it's just a great marketing ploy! Not that a new Mario game even needs one! =P
I mean, I would buy this game even if it came sold in an old banana peel!

Well no doubt it'll stick out on any shelf in any game section of any store. Smart move by Nintendo if they really want to market this to people. Personally, I like both, but I'm more interested in gameplay then something as trivial as the color of a game case.
