The original game may have received a mixed reaction, and all signs point to it not selling stupendously, but the word on the street is that Mirror's Edge is getting a sequel. The first-person parkour 'em up was revealed by DICE senior lighting artist Oscar Carlén on his portfolio.
All mention of the game is now gone, but before the evidence was scrubbed, it made mention of Carlén working on Battlefield 3 and Mirror's Edge 2. The fact that it was removed could confirm that it's still in development, since publishers seem quicker to deny a game being made than a game being thrown on the scrapheap. Still, EA's recent employee cull might have affected it.
It's worth noting also that Mirror's Edge was today announced for the iPhone (screens in gallery). This at least confirms that the IP is not dead, and Electronic Arts is still interested in pursuing the game as a series. If you were a fan of the game, there is still hope yet.
Until official word arrives, there's not a lot we can say. Just be aware that Mirror's Edge 2 was at least in development at some point, according to one of the developers.

The best part of that game was when you were just running through the environment as fast as possible. If they provide more options to avoid combat, and leave out the giant rooms that you have to plod through slowly, then Mirror's Edge 2 could be a great game.
Let me run fast and jump across buildings and engage one on one melee combat, while moving fast. Don't make me slow down and engage in gun combat that clearly doesn't compliment the mechanics that justify the existence of the game, and game will sell bonkers.
Thanks Mr. Sterling, for jogging my memory!
I'd play a sequel for sure. Hell, I might throw the original back in for some of those time trials.
Well, that and 3rd person, but I realize that's kinda picky lol.
I would gladly buy Mirror's Edge 2 though.
The point is to disarm and incapacitate the people as quickly as possible so you can get back to running.
In general, you just run up to somebody with a single flying kick to interrupt the shooting and then disarm them. Five seconds later you're back to running. You're not SUPPOSED to stand there and duke it out punch-for-punch with a guy in an armored suit holding a gun. Hell, most of the time you don't even have to engage enemies at all. And when you HAVE to, you pick them off one by one.
Really, as soon as you kill one it's over because you have a gun and it's even easier to kill dudes with guns.
I encourage everyone to play the game again and to try out the speed-runs and time-trials (watch the vids of them on youtube to get an ideas of what to do) and THEN see how you like it. These extras basically adress all the issues everyone seems to have with the game:
-Hardly any combat (and what there is you almost always just avoid for time)
-Multiple routes to take (actually, the multiple routes are in the regular game as well, they're just VERY nicely hidden)
-Pretty much nothing but free-flow running.
Try it out! It's only $5 on Steam right now so price isn't an issue.
Time-trialling is hard and can be frustrating when you absolutely *have* to get a particular bit button-right... but even with the almighty challenge of 3 stars on each course, it's a beautful game and beautifully realised.
