Art Attack Friday: VinRoc

10:52 PM on 03.14.2008   |   Hamza CTZ Aziz

Vinnie "VinRok" Tartamella is mighty impressive. He's a self-taught artist who loves to dabble in mostly comic-related arts, but luckily for us, he also takes to the occasional videogame character. He is a freelance artist and has worked for companies such as McFarlane Toys, Diamond Select and Bowen Designs, to name a few.  His work has been featured in various magazines and comic books as well.

I really love Vinnie's art, my favorite mostly being the Tomb Raider and BloodRayne pieces. Hey, I am a horn dog after all, as my cohort likes to say. And even though I'm practically all Street Fightered out from all of my SF coverage this week, I have to say the retro Street Fighter piece with all the characters on it is very nice. Also, he drew sharks. How could I not add the shark image?

Check out the rest of VinRoc's artwork on his deviantART page.

Not bad, but the style reminds me of the boxart from the old D&D games like Curse of the Azure Bonds.

Great artist, but I'm not a fan of how he draws faces. Just a matter of taste, really.

That is some awesome stuff! I love the motion blur on Chun-Li’s foot when she’s kicking Sagat.

Not to sound like a hater (since I couldn't begin to draw that well), but I don't really like the style too much. I agree with kapshhh about it looking like the old street fighter comics. Just sort of generic looking...

I also love the Street Fighter art. I agree about attention the SF games are getting lately. I think they'll both likely be good games but man it's just one game.

Kratos looks kind of......generic.

I think it's his ridiculous muscles, they aren't like that in the game. Makes him seem less awesome and more like any other action game character.

Luckily, he's Kratos so the art is win by default.

They just look kind of plastic and vacant.

Nope, i do not dig his style.
It reminds me of those really bad Darkstalkers and Street Fighter cartoons.

Some of those faces look weird and almost too cartoony.

Great detail and color though.

@Endstiem

He seems to be drawing the faces from life - a sign he's kinda shy or hesitant to really let the characters expressions have a life of their own, or improvise the same way he improvises with the body structure.

Understandable though, faces are tough. He should talk to MrJunko :P

Very good stuff. I have to disagree about the female pics, though...the faces are a little manly for my taste. Especially the Res. Evil, second Tomb Raider and Bloodrayne ones.

Not a fan. Too generic and the faces are bland and lifeless.

I like the look, but there is no way any human can do what Chun-Li is doing with her legs.
