Art Attack Friday: Jin-Saotome photo

Art Attack Friday is your weekly look at videogame fan art created by a talented artist.

Art Attack Friday is taking a different approach this week as we take a look at Jin-Saotome, master custom toy maker. Jin has an amazing talent here. He's kind of like Dr. Frankenstein in that he takes body parts from other toys, fuses them together, re-paints them and creates a new, better figure.

Jin-Saotome has a gigantic collection of custom figures over on his deviantART page. He dabbles in a little bit of everything nerdy from videogames, Marvel heroes, Transformers and more. What's really impressive is the fact that the figures all turn out so well. In most cases, better then what an actual toy company has or can make.

Check out his official Web site and deviantART for more of his figures. Any particular figure you guys really like?

Man, that Nathan "Radd" Spencer figure is slick! I think I'd lay down some cash for that one, and the Solid Snake figure in the header/group image.

Really digging his "realistic" interpretations of the Mega Man cast.

holly crap these are awesome.

i always wondered how people do this. are they made from scratch? well some of it anyway.
but then i noticed the megaman X body looks like one of the newer gijoe type figures.

To be fair to the toy companies, they're on a budget and Jin isn't. Also, Jin doesn't have to worry about manufacturability for any custom parts he makes/modifies, or about safety standards. It's far easier (and cheaper) to make a one-off art project than it is to create a mass-producible product that'll show up in toy stores for an affordable price.

That said, Jin does some kickass work.

i wonder if all of these figures have been frankenstein'd together, or if he uses molds to create some of the custom parts. i like the Fallout 3 figurine as you can see that it has all these mix-matched parts and his impressive painting skills have brought them all together.
A++.

Simply incredible. Floody Chief is pretty scary. D: And I love the "realistic" Mega Man characters. XD

I love the Contra ones and the Megaman ones. They were all awesome, but those stood out to me, I never actually pictured Megaman or the boss characters in a realistic way like that, except for maybe the boxart of Megaman 1. Also, the Kratos one was pretty awesome how it looked like a cartoon. Each picture of the Kratos action figure looked almost like an animation cel, really nice looking.
