Arson suspects claim GTA taught them to make Molotov cocktails photo

It looks like America has noticed Thailand having all the GTA-blaming fun recently and wants to remind us who the true masters of videogame scaremongering are. The latest farce comes out of Fulton County, Georgia, where Grand Theft Auto has been brought up in a string of car bombings.

Three teenagers have been arrested for the bombings, in which Molotov cocktails were used, and charged on 57 counts of felony. The 15-16 year olds, possibly seeing how readily people are willing to accept the excuse, have naturally claimed that Grand Theft Auto is to blame for their crime, stating that they learned "how to do it" from the games.

Of course, there are no instructions in Grand Theft Auto teaching you how to make a Molotov cocktail or, indeed, commit any crime whatsoever. The in-game world of GTA has no basis in reality, but that likely won't stop the parents of these kids from swallowing the story hook, line and sinker. Anything to shirk responsibility and find something else to blame for their own wretched spawn's criminal activity.

If kids have learned anything from games, it's that they can be blamed for any and all wrongdoing, and the adults in charge will happily believe them. People like Jack Thompson and Leland Yee help enable criminals by giving them a brand new way of excusing their actions, practically encouraging them. These kids, who know full well that there are no Molotov tutorials in GTA, seem to understand how easy it is to pass the buck onto this generation's source of evil.

[Thanks Power Glove]

So I went to go kill someone to take his car, and when I aimed at his head (I had perfect aim, even when he moved) my lower half fucking disappeared.

All GTA's fault.

I am sick and tired of people blaming games for violence (well in some cases it may be true) but anyway, so your telling me "police, camera, action" the tv show is not similar to gta the other diffrence is its real and its happening but don't go bitching about it since its the norm but as someone replicates in a game "OMG THATS BAD" stupid hypocrites

I'm not completely sure about this but I think the first time I learnt about molotov cocktails was from a murder she wrote episode in the mid-eighties at the tender age of eight. Despite the shows prolific depiction of criminal acts, even murder (shock, horror) I wouldn't dare blame it for my shit behaviour.

I fell in slow motion off of a building because pressing the X button can be a real bitch at times. Then I died.

It's fucking GTAIV's fault.

I get the feeling that these losers just hate GTA and are just doing everything they can to ruin it for everyone. Maybe they just suck at it.

Holy shit...how many movies and TV shows actually show people creating a Molotov Cocktail? And yet, they are blaming a game that doesn't even show how one is created...a character just happens to have access to them as a weapon.

Hell...like asator said, it doesn't take too long to locate instructions on the internet. But damn, kids don't use the internet these days. No, no...they learn all of their evil ways from video games.

Or even still...remove all forms of media. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out how to make one. Christ, I think I was 8 when I realized that putting gas in a bottle and lighting a rag in it would cause an explosion/fire...and that was the 80's.

Actually if you really want to learn how to make Molotov cocktails, grenades, destroy railway lines, fire guns etc. then you should read the British Home Guard manual from WW2.

I learnt how to make a molotov contact by reading a history book about the Battle of Stalingrad. Ban these evil books before more people get hurt

I made one and threw it into a basketball court as a little kid with my brother and his gang-banger friend. It was a good time. Nobody was hurt and no games were blamed. We looked it up on the internet like any normal person would.

I actually went to the rival high school in that area.

Milton, Georgia is known for the idiot redneck kids. This doesn't surprise me.

Oh, and this is the same area where there were kids driving around in a huge pickup with a confederate flag dressed in kkk drab.

Really nice folk there in Milton. Really.

And somehow, video games are to blame for their behavior. Because you know the best-selling multi-console game is "Confederate Monster Truck: KKK Edition".

Somebody ought to write to the DA there, make sure they don't get the insanity defense from a video game.

I can remember the mission where you have only a certain amount of time to actually get the materials for molotov cocktails and put them together.

Oh wait, that didn't happen.

And because it hasn't been said yet: Also, cock...tails.
