What happens when a licensed game doesn't have to be finished in time for the release of whatever major product its promoting? Good things happen! Including but not limited to Batman: Arkham Asylum.
Earlier this month we heard that the game had sold 2 million units, and with all of these new copies now shipped and out on the market, I'm betting it will be sooner than later before we hear how Arkham Asylum has reached 2.5 million sold.
Obviously the game has been successful financially, but even the critics have had good things to say about it too. Personally, it's one of my favorite games to come out this year, and probably the only stealth game I've ever enjoyed. So, Rocksteady, how about that potential sequel you were talking about?
The question is, which villains would you like to see next? Plenty of good ones were touched upon through unlockable character profiles in Arkham Asylum. I think Clayface would be a must for me, and possibly even Man-Bat, assuming a sequel would branch outside of the asylum.

"bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Considering that DC comics owns Batman its not even a surprise.
Shit, I thought Batman was independent contractor.
Only if we can get the cheesy bald Schwarzenegger Mr. Freeze with a throne and cigar in his mouth.
Also, congrats to the developers. They really deserve it. It's hard to come by a great licensed videogame.
set up at the end
Hugo Strange
Doctor Hurt
El Sombrero
Le Bossu
Professor Pygg and The Circus of Strange
It'd be cool to have, say Catwoman as a playable part in the sequel, you could do the same stealth and combat techniques with her, sans the gliding, but you have the whip, ah Rocksteady knows what they're doing.
Only because he's my favoritest Batman villain.
I like the fact that you could visit Clayface in the Asylum. They'd done him very well. In fact, I liked the way they referenced almost ALL of the bad guys Batman has faced! It was great finding the memorabilia as you explored. One of my favourite parts of the game, which I thought added to the atmosphere greatly.
END OF SPOILERS
So long as they go back to the comics for ideas, while not bogging themselves down in continuity crap. I think Rock Steady should look at the kind of day/night cycle that Persona 3 has. Imagine it. Bruce Wayne, dealing with day to day business in the day time, partying with the ladies in the evening, and then hitting the rooftops of Gotham as Batman, to fight crime at night, with all parts playing vitally into the experience.
... Hell no ... too much like hard work!! Just give me Batman side of things.
I personally, got a Condemned vibe off it when I started playing it with a splash of Hitman (the ones that didn't suck). I also enjoyed the lack of a GTA-like open world. Being that open would have shit all over the game's flow and storytelling.
Subtle Reminder:
Thank you for putting a Map in Batman:AA. I loathe when game omit maps.
I would like to see them expand on the detective work aspect. I think there is a lot of gold in dem der hills.
As for villains, the Riddler has to make a return! His audio clips were some of the best in the game. I second the Mad Hatter and add the Clock King. I really liked that they mostly stuck with the more realistic/insane Batman villains outside of Poison Ivy and Bane. For one it made the game that much more "realistic" (I use the term loosely when talking about Batman) and secondly it made those big set piece fights stand out. I don't want to get bogged down in mini-game like boss fights with big guns like Freeze, Clayface, and Manbat; I want to explore an interesting/disturbing world, take out terrified thugs one by one, and absorb the Batman mythos.
