Arkham Asylum publisher totally cool with its delay photo

How quickly we forget -- Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham Asylum was originally supposed to be released in June. When we found out that it was being delayed, we cried. The game was eventually released on August 25; that's like, two whole months!

Gamers might have been a bit worked up about it, but the game's publishers, Eidos and Warner Bros., were cool as cucumbers. Rocksteady's Sefton Hill told Kotaku that the publishers were fine with the extra time. Hill says the reason was "confidence in the game" and the ability to show that the additional development time was "well spent."

Well, apparently it was -- Batman: Arkham Asylum turned out pretty damned good. So no rush on the sequel, Rocksteady; take some extra time. We've got plenty of other games in to play in 2010.

Ooooor so publish the game in 2010. See you're running into a double edged sword topic here. All for more dev time to get it right but god knows I want more Arkham as fast as I can get it.

I'm sure as hell they're fine with it now. What a silly thing to say.

Considering how quickly this sequel made itself known a delay can only be good news as maybe they'll concentrate on content instead of cashing in on a high seller.

I wasn't even aware this game was delayed.

A precedent that I hope other licenced games developers and publishers take note of.

That and actually making a good, interesting game that panders greatly to your existing install base, rather than a cheap cash-in.

Well they have most of the engine from the 1st game created, set-up, and ready for the sequel... so, it generally shouldn't take longer than the 1st one... right?
