Arkham Asylum GOTY will hit North America photo

North American console audiences will not go wanting for 3D Batman Arkham Asylum action. In an official release blasted this afternoon, publisher Eidos confirmed that the game's Game of the Year Edition, which supports TriOViz 3D on both consoles and ships with the four downloadable Challenge packs, will hit North American shores.

When will it come? Later than the PAL and Australasia editions. Each version of the package -- PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 -- hits NA store shelves on May 11th. The rest of the targeted territories will get there's at an earlier Bat-time: March 26th. Rejoice and get ready to look goofy in those glasses, 3D nerds.

I am really curious as to how this game will look in 3d. This gives me a good excuse to re-play it (and finish off those Riddler challenges).

Any word on if the 360 version will get the Joker Missions with this?

I'm really confused as to why 3D is becoming so big lately.

I borrowed and beat this a while back, so I guess now's a good time to actually buy it for myself so I can play it again with my girlfriend :D

Oh, WAH about the fscking glasses. No one is supposed to looking at each other when wearing them anyway, so complaining about the glasses and how they make you look is nothing but egocentric, shallow whining.

The 3D screen shots of Arkham on NVidia's web site (even with the red/blue glasses) are astounding! Looks like this will be using the green/magenta glasses which supposedly work better for most people than the red/blue.

I bought the original for the PS3 on day one, but I'll probably be buying this anyway. Of course, I'm not so shallow that I care about what people will think about the glasses.

The last game I played in 3D was Sly 3 and it wasn't that good.

That just adds to the ways Arkham Asylum and Sly Cooper are similar.

I wonder if the glasses from Avatar would work for this.

Cool, but how much will it be?

@tim:

If the glasses looked like barely-darkened sunglasses, then no. Those require a polarized source, and right now polarization is practically non-existant outside of IMAX and theatres. According to the picture, this will require glasses like those that came with "Coraline" - magenta in one eye, green in the other.

That's too bad. Thanks for the info, though.

@OmegaPlatinum: Same here. I've seen a few of the big ones in 3D, and while it was initially novel, I find myself opting for the truer colors of plain, ol' 2D.

@John b: What the hell dude? I didn't see a single person anywhere complaining about the 3D glasses, and while the article mentions looking goofy in them, it's hardly a complaint.

I don't care if it has the greatest 3D ever made. I see the same old problem with this Batman because of flimsy odd fitting glasses that I'm sure as hell not going to wear for hours on end.
I can't even stand wearing the movie theatre IMAX glasses...and these are worse. It's like it's 1983 all over again (if my memory is right, it was '83 when I had to wear these same kind of cheap ass glasses for both Friday The 13th 3D and Jaws 3D that I saw. (Yeah, they both came out the same summer)

Either make a technology where no glasses are required or pony up to include quality glasses (this is directed at games or movies) or fuck your 3D.

I just glanced at the thread, which I didn't do before the first post.
So before John boy or whatever says it's a vanity thing, uh...no. It's a comfort thing. I could care less about looks. I care whether they either stay in place on their own without slipping every so often or (this is the more usual problem with the hard plastic glasses) the frikkin' unconforming earpieces dig into the sides of the head and you have to keep trying to adjust them so you don't have the stupid things stabbing in your head.
What is fine for about ten minutes becomes a bother and distraction...along with the fact the 3D in movies is only okay, it's far from perfect.
But the flimsy kind like it shows Batman coming with, those have always been the ones that never quite fit right. Unless there's something amazingly different about them then every past 3d glasses has had, this is one gimmick I hope dies.
It won't, but I'll keep hoping anyway.
