Arkham Asylum GOTY edition detailed, getting 3D treatment photo

Square Enix has confirmed the first details on the upcoming Batman: Arkham Asylum Game of the Year Edition, which is set for a European release on March 26.

The package will come with six extra challenge maps on the disc, which is set to hit Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. The maps will have players facing off against Arkham's inmates in locales such as Crime Alley and Scarecrow's Nightmare.

But beyond that, the game will also support 3D on all three platforms. Citing an "innovative new technology" called "TriOviz 3D," console players will be able to view the game in 3D, compatible with standard definition and HDTV sets.

The Arkham Asylum GOTY will ship with a pair of 3D glasses, insuring that you'll see Bats and the Joker in all their 3D glory. No word on whether or not insurance will cover migraine treatment as a result.

At last a decent (at least i hope so) 3D i can have not only on my PS3, but also on X360.
And it's all on standard, non-3D TVs.
Fuck yeah.

I'm interested in seeing how this 3D thing pans out. If it's any good we may be seeing a lot more of it in the future.

Though even if it's shit we may be seeing more of it...

Arkham asylum was imo one of the best games of 2009, but something about 3d gaming puts me off. I'll probably still buy it though.

You Europeans just kicked every Yankee's ass when it comes to the vidya games. Every Yankee who bought Arkham Asylum, anyway.

Here's the shit part of 3D gaming -

I have glasses included with my game, sure, but what about my friends - are they SOL?

What if a new 3D Standard arises and competes (ie IMAX versus REAL3D)? Will I need 2-3 different pairs of glasses? Who knows! It's 3D!

Would be nice to get the challenge maps as DLC, otherwise I need to buy the game again. Also, I'd love to see them put the 'Play As Joker' content for other platforms.

But PS3 fanboys said 360 couldn't do 3D.

Blah blah blah, had to say it.

While I didn't care for AA at all, I am interested in this newfangled technology of theirs. I remain skeptical of 3D for now. I tried playing G-Force (what are you looking at?) in 3D, and they insisted on using the age old red/blue, which makes the game lose all other colors involved.

I might buy this if I have the money. I suppose I need to give AA another chance anyway.

These maps can be obtained in Europe for free as DLC. The real bonus is 3D.

Cool, gotta check this action out. The Scarecrow scenes in 3D could be rad.

I had a chance to play Resident Evil 5 in 3D last year at my company's conference. I was truly blown away. It required an expensive pair of glasses but the effect was totally worth it. It was like I was living in the future!

I really hope the Joker maps get included on the 360/PC versions.

We PS3 owners have had them as an exclusive long enough, I think it's about time to share. =)

Does anyone know how the built-in 3d compares to Nvidia 3d?

Until 3D technology reaches a point where I don't have to use those damn glasses experience it, I don't care. It's literally not worth the headache.

I checked out the website for the 3D after I heard about this yesterday. It doesn't use red and blue. Also, if you send an email to the company with your address they'll send you a test kit. Probably has a pair of glasses and a short dvd or something. Possibly worth a try.

Arkham Asylum is already 3D-ready on PCs if you have an NVidia 8x00 series card or newer. Red/blue 3D is built right into the hardware. Arkham is even showcased on NVidia's web site.

@ SnatchTease - Drat! Foiled again. Eh well, I've got a home full of Batman stuff as it is. It's not like I need little glasses to see him in 3D when I've got statues and figures all over the place.

I might try to pick up a copy anyway. I don't really care about the 3D thing, but I'm a massive fanboy. Of Batman, that is. ;)

I think you mean in polarized 3d and not stereo 3d, sort of bother me because I am going to be a film director.

Feh.

I'm done with Stereoscopic 3D. It grates on the eyes and the colors are always a mess compared to what can be done with Polarized 3D.

I see no point to 3D being in a game unless it was designed to have it. Simply running Arkham in 3D isn't going to make the experience any better, so I see no point.

Great game, unnecessary bonus feature to push more copies, only the suckers who buy it will ever know if it's worth it.

I have to say Arkam Asylum was a great game. I see nothing here that would make me go out and buy it though. I beat it once and once was enough.

Maybe the skills they gained with 3d technology would make it worth while.
