With the last beta weekend behind us for Guild Wars 2, there's about a month left of waiting before ArenaNet's anticipated MMO launches officially. The studio has put together four videos, each highlighting a distinct part of the game; they're ideal viewing material if you haven't been keeping up.
The first of the so-called "pillars" of Guild Wars 2 is dynamic events, perhaps my personal favorite aspect. These make the game feel fluid and easy to dive into, which goes a long way when you're doing quest after quest without the patience to wait around for friends to congregate.
Below are the remaining three videos that cover personal player stories, combat, and player vs. player, respectively. As for world vs. world gameplay, ArenaNet says that's a video for another day.
After playing SWTOR for a few months I couldnt take any of the story in GW2 during the BWE seriously. But damn, that combat and PvP is awesome.
One big issue I have(that I had with WAR as well) is the open public quests, since they take out any social interaction. No grouping means no talking with your group, and while there may be way more people in an area than there are in SWTOR it feels even more dead than SWTOR. Which is fine if youre in a guild, but it made it difficult to even get anyone to say "Hi" or "thanks" or anything.
@Achromatis
really? I found that the story in GW2 actually had choices that changed the way the story unfolded. I played the human story all the way to the end and I was surprised at how it was all attached to my personal choices at the beginning of the game, and I also played alongside my friends human story and it was completely different. We weren't playing the same stories. Whereas in SWTOR, you always had a light side choice, a dark side choice, and a neutral choice which no one really picked because some really good items need a certain amount of lightside or darkside points.
I loved the BWE. The early levels feel like they drag alittle too long. Then once I hit level 15+ I was having a blast. Still most likely wont get it day one, but within the first few month it's a for sure buy.
only thing that is gonna kill this for me is the lack of a endgame loot. The pvp was ok, still seemed incredibly unbalanced and too chaotic to be very tactical.
and with no upgrades avilable, it will probably be more like call of duty, where I log in once every couple months to pwn some nubs. Rather than like world of warcraft pvp where I was pvping evry free moment I had (back during vanilla that is)
I feel like the lack of an endgame is probably gonna turn a lot of people off once they max level. Luckily there is no monthly fee so I don't mind gambling on the game. Will probably end up like the first gw where I play for a month then never touch it again.
Endgame content seems to be one of the most contested aspects of GW2. There are a lot who like to raid or farm for endgame gear, I don't understand it really but I can accept it as something some people get value out of. I just don't see how you keep pvp balanced and fair with that rare gear available. Besides, the level adjustments in GW2 make every zone relevant, not just the 70+ areas.
