Are you ready for Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter? photo

Gentlemen, ready your chainsaws.

I ask that you take a break from your Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter killfest to listen up: Devolver Digital is putting The Second Encounter through the same HD-ification process and hopes to get the game out to us by early 2010.

The studio will be making co-op competitive with a new tournament mode -- teams compete against one another while blasting away at everything that moves. If you're in the market for pure, unadulterated FPS action, look no further than these games. The beautiful new aesthetic is only an added bonus.

Surely we will be holding our "S" keys (or if you are the courageous type, the "W" key) while left-clicking for many more years to come.

"SAM I AM."

"S" key is right... back away from the evil.

I haven't even bought the original yet as I am swamped with games. Definately a purchase at some point though.

I'm still hoping for a PS3 port, but I'll probably eventually get the PC version.
Regardless, great news!

If they include split-screen co-op in the PC version again, then maybe I'll care. Otherwise, I still have my discs from 2001.

Hell yeah.

2nd > 1st.

Even though the last boss of 2nd is kinda lame compared to the sheer RADNESS that is the boss in 1st.

"WASD" control is for plebes. Real PC gamers know "ESDF" is vastly superior as the keys to the right of "G" are then reachable while still allowing for custom binds for "Q/W/A/Z" which can all be pressed with easy use of the pinky finger. Also, the little bump on the "F" key helps you find your hand placement on the keyboard again when panic strikes and your left hand must leave the keyboard to perform a life saving act, and then quickly return home. ;-P

That being said, I prefer a combo of "D" and "F" myself. Which is to say I circle backwards and to the right. This seems to be the best way to avoid the most damage in the open. Jumping helps as well. Narrowly missing the occasional charging bull and/or ground based projectiles.

I swear, I could teach classes on Serious Sam. A more noble and scholarly effort has never been known to man. After the Second Encounter in HD... may God let there be a third or perhaps a new Serious Sam all together.
