Archaic Sealed Heat looks hot photo

Mistwalker's first portable RPG is called Archaic Sealed Heat, and although we've been hearing about it for awhile, it wasn't until recently that we started to see some real details.

First off, Nintendo Japan's Web site for the game has moved from teaser site to the real deal, giving more details on character and story information.

Famitsu has some new screenshots from the game. Most noticable are the pictures of the cutscenes, which will probably have you double-checking if this is really a DS title. Other pictures include shots from the battle system, which can range from a standard RPG encounter battling to a grid-based strategy affair. The strategy lies in the use and distribution of Action Points, which are shared between everyone in the party.

Final Fantasy's daddy, Hironobu Sakiguchi, heads up the creation this strategy role-playing game which uses the Nintendo DS's bottom screen for control and gameplay while the top screen shows full-motion video of the action. Final Fantasy-founding musician Nobuo Uematsu sits this Mistwalker game out, and Hitoshi Sakimoto (Final Fantasy XII, Final Fantasy Tactics) steps up to take charge of the musical score.

Archaic Sealed Heat will be released in Japan on October 4th. Let's keep our fingers crossed for an English language release. In the mean time, we hope to get some hands-on time with this title at the Tokyo Game Show next month.

Is it just my imagination, or is does it look "cold" in the first pic?

Hunh.

Astute observation. Didn’t notice it before but now it’s become very difficult to pull my eyes away.

The game itself is looking pretty rad.
Really happy to see Sakaguchi working on all these titles.

I had heard rumblings about this game a couple months ago, but nothing much. Those new screens do look amazing. If only I could read Japanese and find anything out about the story/characters. The different battle types (strategy and turn based) in the same game looks interesting.

Mistwalker holds all my hopes for the future of RPGs. Maybe, if I ask nicely, they'll make a new ARPG that's a spiritual successor (not canonical, like Square Enix keeps thinking I want) to Secret of Mana.

Hrn, I find those screens somewhat uninspiring. The FMVs look about as good as mid to late psx titles, the sprites in the TBS screen look mediocre at best and that battle screen appears to be occupied exclusively by prerenders(ugleh in extreme). Maybe it'll look better in motion, but so far I am unimpressed.
