Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney to hit North American shelves on February 12 photo

If you are a huge Phoenix Wright fanboy like me, you will be very excited to hear that Capcom has just announced the first game in its spin-off series, Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, is scheduled for release in North America on February 12.

I already miss my boy Phoenix (big ups!), but am willing to be open-minded and give his slick red vest-wearing colleague a chance. While I don’t think I will have as much of a secret man crush on Apollo, what keeps me optimistic is the fact that Apollo Justice was specifically made for the Nintendo DS (as opposed to the Phoenix Wright GBA ports). Hopefully this will mean more fun gameplay reminiscent of the final episode from the first Phoenix Wright game (added elements that allowed the player to rotate evidence, blow on the screen while taking fingerprints, etc.).

Are you excited about giving this new series a try, or are you pouring a 40 for Phoenix and cursing Apollo's smug look as you read this?

Hit the jump for the full press release.

CAPCOM'S APOLLO JUSTICE: ACE ATTORNEY COMING TO NORTH AMERICA ON FEBRUARY 12

SAN MATEO, Calif. — January 9, 2008 - Capcom® Entertainment, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today announced that the latest installment of its highly popular courtroom drama series, Apollo Justice™: Ace Attorney™ is scheduled for release in North America on February 12, 2008. The first Ace Attorney game developed specifically for Nintendo DS™, this is the fourth title in the series and will feature all new characters, including new defense attorney Apollo Justice. Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney has been rated T for Teen by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB).

This new chapter to the Ace Attorney series will drop players into the shoes of Apollo Justice, where they'll make use of his uncanny ability to uncover witnesses’ lies by studying their body language. But as talented as our hero is, he wouldn't get far without the support of his assistant Trucy, a mysterious female magician. Apollo also receives invaluable advice from Kristoph Gavin, his ultra-cool mentor whose perfect logic and natural instincts have won him numerous cases and the respect of his colleagues.

Fans and newcomers alike will get a chance to experience the game early by way of a flash demo that will be found on both www.Capcom-Unity.com and www.Ace-Attorney.com in January. Similarly, Nintendo DS™ owners will have the opportunity to download via wi-fi a demo of the game from Nintendo Stations which can be found in various retail locations. By sampling the unique puzzles, characters and storyline of Apollo Justice, gamers will see for themselves what the hysteria surrounding Ace Attorney series is all about – unrelenting fun!

Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Features:

All-new courtroom adventure from the creators of Phoenix Wright™: Ace Attorney™

• 1st fully new title to be developed specifically for the Nintendo DS.

• Classic Ace Attorney gameplay with new modes that let you survey crime scenes, interview witnesses and gather evidence before defending your client in court!

• Microphone can be used to yell “Objection!” and “Hold it!” as you cross examine witnesses

All new “Crime Recreation Mode” that allows players to reveal hidden clues by re-creating the scene of the crime

• Two distinct gameplay segments:
-Investigation phase – survey crime scenes, interview witnesses and gather evidence that will be used in court
-Court phase – present findings from the investigation to support your case, listen to testimonies and examine witnesses

• Diverse cast of characters:
-Apollo Justice: the new defense attorney who leads the series.
-Klavier Gavin: in addition to being a top prosecutor, Klavier is also the lead singer in a highly successful rock band who brings his star qualities into the courtroom.
-Kristoph Gavin: the coolest character on the judicial circuit, and Apollo’s mentor. His cool headed thinking means he always provides his clients with the best defense.
-Trucy : The mysterious magician Trucy started working with Apollo after a chance encounter.

I was excited about a DS Phoenix Wright, but that was when I played as Phoenix Wright. I just don't care about Apollo, might get it when it's cheap though.

Wow, this is kinda sprung on us, in a good way though :D I was expecting a September/October release, February is good too, though!

FUCK YEAH! A MAGICIAN?! I LOVE IT!

Phoenix Wright is my hero, and the last case in the first game was the best case out of all of the games thus far in my opinion, so if it's like that, it'll rock. I can't wait to play it now.

i'll miss PW but I have a small thought that PW will make a small cameo somewhere in the game...

but..that's just me. I haven't checked out this one since the screens were released on the Japanese version. i'm ready for some pretty strange voices for "OBJECTION"

This has become one of my favorite gaming franchises. Especially at the rate they've been coming out (with four games now at just over two years time), it feels like episodic content. In my mind, I'm buying the Season Four Box Set of Ace Attorney on Feb 12.

I just love getting these games. I bring it everywhere I go until they're finished; work, on the train, on the...potty, at home in bad. These games are really entertaining and funny. Can't wait!

I wouldn't call it a "spin-off" series, when it's just called Turnabout Courtroom 4 in Japan...

But anyways, yes, I am totally looking forward to seeing more of the fucking AWESOME DS specific stuff they added to the bonus case of the first one. Also, lulz at the new prosecutor.

Well, maybe Apollo Justice is taking center stage to give the players a different perspective of Phoenix Wright.

Raiden did the same thing in Metal Gear Solid 2, and everybody loved him. R-right? ._.

I preferred the story in the first four levels of Phoenix Wright, but I liked the rotating evidence in the last level.

I will probably get it... after I beat Phoenix Wright (2 forgot it's name) and... open Phoenix Wright 3.

I haven't beat AA3, but I'm on the last case. From what I can tell, it is by far the best in the series in terms of story. All the cases actually relate to each other in one way or another, and the game's over all narrative theme of "real" people vs impostors is quite thought provoking at times.

Plus, the jokes are hilarious.

I know PW and Co. show up in AA4 at some point, so there is no way I'm passing the game up. Right now, this series has me by the balls.

I've yet to play PW3 (I own it but haven't played it yet), but after I do I'll definitely pick this up. Even though the main character isn't Phoenix, I'm sure I'll like it.

After the amazing Trials and Tribulations, I am certainly giving Apollo Justice a shot. Sure, he's not the ace attorney we all know and love (or maybe that's just me), but I can't imagine they could do anything wrong with the Ace Attorney series (so long as I forget about Justice for All...).
