The latest issue of EGM has a curious advertisement by the American Power Conversion company, best known for those ugly square things under your desk at work that occassionally beep and hiss when someone overloaded the coffee machine. The ad headline reads "Introducing Gank-Proof power protection": An ad agency's commendable plea to "speak gamer" (but somehow still shows a 50 year old lady modeling their products. What is this, a Wii ad?)
Anyway, while I do think a good UPS unit is a no-brainer investment for any gaming rig, this ad copy really goes for the collective Warcraft jugular:
All to often, bad power, or lack of power, comes between you and saving the world from destruction. If you're in an MMO the stakes are even higher - when you go down, it affects everybody. And if there's cash at stake, the losses go far and beyond just embarrassing yourself.
Damn APC, pulling heart strings a little too tightly there, no? I'm sure everybody over at IGE just bought some stock.
