APB lead character artist launches new start-up photo

Raise your hand if you found the best part of Realtime World's now-deceased APB to be the character creator. Yeah, thought so.

Lead character artist Jimmy O'Ready, who has previously worked on games like SSX (Can you see the similarities now?), was met with similar praise. He's recently opened Montynero Characters and Montynero Concept Art, which are based out of Dundee.

With any luck, he can help other studios execute a similar style with their games, and perhaps the arguably best component of APB can live on through future titles. "Montynero is positioned to provide the highest quality of characters, concepts, and expertise for all game types, anywhere," O'Ready commented.

Happy to hear that this segment of the game will live on. That said, raising the name of SSX really makes me wonder why EA isn't jumping on that.

I certainly thought the art was a lot better outside the game. Glad to see one of the few talented people involved is getting some work.

Marasune is a douche: confirmed.

@Darckcloud: Agreed. Felt like the game was out for a month or something before it exploded.

Lemme guess...14? 15?16 is the highest I'll go. If you're above 17 I'll just have to cry for humanity.

I have to say, some of APB's concept art was absolutely amazing from a design standpoint so I'm glad to see that despite the game doing horribly, at least some of the talent is still working.

i guess that is frowned upon these days. sorry guys. guess i was just try to get a word in edgewise. it was indeed a very unhelpful word.

as for popularity via rude factor, scribble, xzyliac, im 20, not that it matters. just go cry for that humanity now.

furthermore: will never say first again for the sake of losing all my internets.

i leave with saying i am indeed sad panda, or son, i am disappoint.

Good for him. He's talented, so can gain from being out there now. Love his work, and will look forward to seeing more of it. Just don't overkill it, Jim.

Always thought that the character art of APB was the best part of it, and even though it was mostly of generic gangbanger type people, it at least looked fresher than all the GTA clones of years past.

Hope this venture becomes a success for him.

Hmm - well, I hope he gets some work out of it. I'm late to the APB party, but from what I'm seeing, his art style is pretty sweet - definitely someone to follow.

When reading the headline I thought the article was referring to Arnold Tsang, which got me kind of excited. I guess he wasn't the lead character artist, but hey, let's look at his character designs anyway: http://arnistotle.deviantart.com/gallery/

Fucking fantastic news.
If there was one thing I could complement about APB, it had some superb 2D/3D artwork. I'm very glad to see that they got back on their feet quickly.

The overall engine of APB was okay, and the character creator was pretty good. These are both perfectly valuable assets if used in the right game.

As for the character creator, face and body shapes were actually pretty limited, even though designs were pretty cool.
