Would you say the original Legend of Zelda was a better game than The Adventure of Link? I'm pretty sure we all threw the original in a drawer when that one came out, but now that time has passed it's hard to say. Is Ninja Gaiden II better than Shinobi, or Dragon Warrior VI for that matter? Depends who you ask, of course.
I think we can all generally agree on a paella of the top 50, but nailing down a numbered top 10 list of some of the games we feel most emotional about is a debate recipe for STFUAJPG. Nevertheless, here's GameTrailer's take on the very cream of the crop. PS. River City Ransom made the cut, so that's why I'm not defocating on it.
PS. Can someone beat Ninty over the head and get this full list on VC?

Not a list I think anyone would agree with 100%, but I'm so glad to see RCR and Castlevania III get props. Particularly Castlevania III, which is almost always snubbed in top ten lists in favor of the first game, which is a travesty.
pretty sure the song @ the beginning is from metroid.
RCR may make its way to the virtual console, don't be a bunch of negative nancies. didn't it resurface on the GBA not long ago as RCR:EX..
TECMO ruled the 8-bit era, and while they sang the praises of tecmo super bowl, tecmo basketball was no joke either. just as realistic and customizable. that game kicked ass.
Everyone things Spider-Man 3 sucks because it sucked. Go watch it and let me know what you think. I'm not going to spoil it but when you see it, hopefully you will see why it sucks. There are some amazing parts, but for the most part..pure suckage.
There was a flash of RC pro AM in the intro to that video, and for a second I was giddy with delight that oh of my favorite NES games would actually be on that list. No dice, but stellar list though.
Are you seriously asking if people think Zelda 1 was better than Zelda 2?
Because we do.
All of us.
You're the only person I think I've ever seen question that fact. (If in fact that was what you were doing)
ALL of Zelda 1 was great. Every last bit. And it even had one of the greatest unexpected bonuses of all time: The Master Quest.
Zelda 2 was hit and miss all over. The best I've ever heard anyone say about the game is that it's "underrated." Probably true, but it's not underrated by THAT much.
DinnertimeNinja, I'm going to have to call you out here.
"All of us" is a lie. Zelda II is, by all accounts a good game. For it's time, we could go so far as to say it's a very good game.
The fact it is not a top down "traditional" Zelda game (keep in mind that this is only the second Zelda title ever at this point, so there isn't much of a tradition here to work with) does not immediately relegate it to the bargain bin.
In typical Nintendo fashion, the controls are simple yet complex and the sword fighting is some of the best 2D sword fighting you can get. It's not simply a button masher hash and slash fest.
Couple that with towns you can traverse to learn new spells, some adorable characters that have become internet memes (I AM ERROR for one) seven palaces and many a cave and secret forest location and you've got yourself a hell of a game.
To be honest, I'm (still to this day) quite saddened that Nintendo hasn't done more with this direction. I'm not saying they should make more Zelda games like this, lord knows fanboys won't have that, but starting a new franchise with this basic model would be a good step.
I love love love Bionic Commando. Nice to see it in the intro. I have beaten Mike Tyson's Punch Out]/b] (Sandman was always the hardest for me out of the regular fighters, even more so than Super Macho Man), [b]Contra (but never without the code), The Legend of Zelda (both quests), and of course countless hours on SMB3.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
My luck : Probably broken just for me.
My world has truly crumbled. Why does everyone think Spidey3 sucked?

most people will tell you that it really sucked, when it reality it was just lousy.

Baseball Stars
TMNT 3: The Manhattan Project
Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
Yes, two out of three are licensed properties. But prove me wrong.
Pogo cane FTW.
