Before you watch the video above, I highly recommend you catch the first episode of the Real World Rules series, so that you'll get a better idea of what Alone in the Dark 5's engine has to offer.
In this episode, we learn that swinging a giant pipe at your foe isn't as easy as hitting a face button. Much like skate. before it, Alone in the Dark 5 has adopted a control scheme that allows you to use the right analog stick for greater precision.
We've all heard the complaints about current game controllers being overly complicated, so this is definitely a step in the right direction.
Also shown in this tech demo is the ability to turn a can of disinfecting spray into a flamethrower. If I had to choose between additional health and burning monsters with a makeshift flamethrower while accidentally catching myself on fire and getting a game over, I'd undoubtedly pick death. Wouldn't you too?
Jordan Devore is Destructoid's PC gaming manager and founding ginger editor. He is said to be easy to love but difficult to know. When Samit inquired about his curious bio photo Jordan simply replied: "bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

Wow, that's some pretty cool stuff. Analog sticks for limb control is great. Skate did it really well and think a lot of games could really benefit from the idea.
i like how you can swing the pipe around your head. thats a nice little thing that i like abuot the game. i wrote about it to on the blog that i write for : www.consolepatrol.com the game is shaping up to be a really cool game.
The more I hear from the soundtrack makes me want this game just for that. Guaranteed that it'll probably sell independent of the actual game as well (I hope so).
This looks so god damn awesome. After seeing the first tech demo for the "Real World Rules" I was really interested in the game, and now even more so after seeing this one. They need to make a zombie game with these game mechanics, perhaps Dead Rising 2 could use it. That'd be awesome.
I'm hesitant to beg for a substantial story, and looking at those graphics and that physics engine I don't know how likely I am to get one. All I can say is: if it can't have a story, then sticky tape better not be the only damn trick you can play with.
Hmm. Doesn't seem that holding a burning item for too long has any bad effects, the table/torch he was holding was burning all the way down to the leg where he was holding it.
Also, would the door dent like that from a pistol round? I'm not into guns and all that stuff, but that door looked pretty thick. Would have liked to have seen her blow the lock off the door, as a way to get through it... maybe you could pick the lock, jimmy it, smash it off the door if you have the right tools... or if there's something chasing you and you need to get through it STAT, you can waste a round or two to pop the lock.
Other than that, amazing. I'd love to see how the Wii version handles though. Something tells me that if they use the wiimote right, this is insta-win game of the year!
Oh ya, flamethrower over health every time. I mean, that finnish study proved that gamers are happier when they're dying; that's probably a direct result of rocket jumping and using your first aid kit to set things on fire.
Pretty dern sexy. Hopefully the gameplay will match that fucking awesome engine. Shit, I'll enjoy it if if it doesn't, just by fucking around with fire and chairs.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
