GTA4 sucked because it had nothing of value to do in its sandbox. Bowling, Darts, and stand up comedy pales in comparison to having dynamic gang wars, chop shops to customize cars, the ability to break into suburban houses at night and steal shit, houses and businesses to buy, planes to fly with countryside to fly over, enjoyable driving physics and two dozen other things the previous generation of GTA offered.
There's no reason we can't have a serious story and aesthetic. In fact, I want the previous games' gameplay realism of having a literal world of options at my disposal.

Bloody hell those are some mighty pretty pictures. I tell ya I think the next gen of consoles should be put on hold until every dev can make their games this pretty.

GTA V can be realistic artistically. In fact, the art of GTA 4 was the best part about the game.

I like how people think that Rockstar actually care about Sleeping Dogs, or any 'competition' for that matter. I mean, it's GTA, and people don't just buy one game and not the other. Unless you have literally no money, you shouldn't have to decide between the two, especially when there will likely be a large gap between the two getting released.

Let's hope the game remembers to let loose sometimes. It would be great if the main storyline is about a guy who loses everything as the recession hits, and then just doesn't give a f#ck anymore and decides to do whatever the hell he wants. Also, he's friends with a Libertarian who gives him a steady supply of firearms. That would make some sort of statement, I guess. But more importantly....fun.

If they can keep the tone closer to Ballad of Gay Tony rather than vanilla IV I'll be very happy. As someone said on here once, IV was to this gen what III was to the previous one, getting the tech out there. Because quite honestly, III was pretty bare compared to Vice City and San Andreas. Give em time.

lastly, that biplane screenshot has me listening to Cult of Personalty and flashing back to San Andreas
MP details PLEASE!?!?! More specifically, will free roam be modeled after Red Dead? I think it would be cool if there was a way to do locked ranked matches and open unranked where anyone in freeroam could just stumble into the action. For example you're in a gang battle and some random ass clown could just dive bomb a biplane into the fight. Do it so the people in the match get points for kills and such but the others don't or something like that.
Another thing I'd like to see is player controlled police in freeroam where you'd get special cop abilities that others wouldn't have like being able to arrest other players, call for back up, initiate pursuits and set up roadblocks. That sort of thing. Of course the number of police per lobby would have to be limited to 1/4-1/3 of players or something.

On a side note, can anyone actually state why the physics in GTA 4 was so bad? Not just say they are bad or say the older games are better, but what reasons made you think 4 was worse physics wise.
I found being able to properly do a moonshine turn was wonderful. I also immensely enjoyed not having to abandon every flipped vehicle before it blew up like in previous games. My only major problem would have been the acceleration for a lot of the heavier vehicles was a bit too sluggish to make them effective battering rams or escape choices. That and usual tendency of the Banshee to flip for no fucking reason like in every other game.

I actually prefer a realistic GTA; if I want to play in a game that lets me play as purple-colored criminals, I'd play Saint's Row. Still, GTAIV was a let-down. Let's hope in this game I can be an actual criminal than just being a psychopathic murderer.
