Thank god for xbox live
What about every other company on the list.
Why the consistent target on Sony's back.
Wheres the vengeance against UMG. Especially after they abused the take down notice on the Megaupload video.
Does that mean you feel Anonymous are justified in their employed tactics - not their contention, mind you, but in their idea of "justice".
I love watching Anonymous do crazy stuff like this just to see what happens. Not saying that I agree with everything they do, but they always put on an entertaining show, that's for sure.
I do think the group can get drunk on its own sense of power, and can definitely go too far. I also wonder whether it's not as invincible as it thinks it is and does run the risk of fucking its own interests if it bites the wrong hand.
Still, my main point is that I can't think of a target Anon's "officially" gone after that deserved my sympathies.
The musicians and actors defending it? Many of them are touched by Sony in some way or another.
Game companies I'm not so hard on about this as they probably just blindly jumped on it because they like the idea of IP protection and didn't read into the ramifications of the bill.
But Sony has made a career of making enemies of the consumer and preventing freedom with media. Remember Napster? They tried their best to restrict our ability to enjoy music the way we wanted to through copy protections and prosecution.
This is just another page in Sony's long history of doing this. Nintendo,, EA, Konami and the like can't even hold a candle to it and their involvement is a bit more unwitting. Microsoft made like a bat out of hell because they knew the implications were this to backfire on them.
If SOPA is for protecting corporations, wouldn't an attack on a corporation make the government see a greater need to bring the bill into action?
It's not like they are the company with the most to win out of it.
VIACOM? Hello?
Please find another outlet to express your dissatisfaction.
But id be willing to bet that 99.999998 percent of Sony's workforce does NOT support SOPA
nor do its customers and therein lies the problem
I don't.
I simply don't condemn it either.
True enough. It's one thing when they're going after paedophile rings andsupporting the Arab Spring.
However, it's another thing when they're defending rapists, attacking individuals over their "no cursing" websites, and stealing credit card data. Official statements don't count for anything given the nature of Anonymous. They can't promote themselves as a group of concerted individualists free of regulation while disavowing the participation of individuals among them who compromise their popularity. It smacks of a shunning of responsibility.
It's like with regards to the Occupy movement. It's absurd for proponents of Occupy camps to gloss over and disregard the shockingly common rape of women in some such camps on the basis that the rapists weren't "real Occupiers." As advocates of free participation, Anonymous and Occupy camps are responsible for the actions of their components.
Sorry for any typos here.
I somehow glossed over that part of your post, my apologies!
It can.
And others can call Sony a massive bag of panda penises for doing so.
Because AMERICA!
We aren't required to accept Sony's support of SOPA just because it's legal for them to do so.
And SOPA is still in great danger of passing. Did you watch the committee vote session? Don't be so naive.
Rather than SOPA, I would rather see better legislation aimed at incarcerating the bully dictators. As to the other industries... evolve and get better DRM systems, or die.
While I won't comment on most of your post I feel compelled to quote this.
"why not do what needs to be done and EDUCATE people why it's wrong to support SOPA"
Seriously? There's hundreds of articles and sites about it and while "any bit helps" honestly people don't WANT to be educated. They're lazy and they want to stay ignorant. They'll bitch and cry later if it passes but plenty will do nothing before hand, and most of the rest will just decry it but actually do nothing.
Educate people about, heh.
Good joke.
