They're protesting the financial buttfucking Sony gave Geohot and that other dude.
And that's all I'm gonna say on the matter.
Not only that, but Anonymous simply aren't a driving force for cultural change. They are at best amusing and at worst annoying.
And that goal would be...?
What "injustices" have Sony performed? Did I miss the article where they decapitated, urinated upon, and burned baby corpses multiple times? All Sony has done is within their rights as clearly stated in their terms of service agreement.
Oh, and Sony "corrupt"? Do they have any proof? Because right now that just sounds like mellifluous libel to me.
And I don't really mean this to trash you, I'm just pointing out that while Anonymous has a goal, they have no reasoning for their goal, which most people don't seem to realize
@personz
Agreed. I've been holding out on getting a Playstation Move until some better games come along, but i'm thinking of getting one early just to protest against Anonymous. Heavy Rain should be a suitable distraction until No More Heroes
Just so you know, i will be keeping my Sony stuff cause I actually knew what I was buying into when I purchased it all (plus I'm a real gamer so I actually enjoy using my PS3 for... GAMES!)
Gamers and techno-buffs alike aren't going to keep listening to this complete and utter drivel.
The scientology thing was amusing. I sense this will fall spectacularly on its face.
The best way to handle it though is to just get the word out. Let people know about the anti-consumer attitude Sony has displayed. Let them know about the lawsuits that have forced people and entire companies into bankruptcy. Let them know about the Sony root-kit.
You can't change people's minds about Sony by punching them in the face. All you can do is give them the information they need to form their own opinion.
I don't know what they're planning, but so far it's been pretty underwhelming.
They think they're fighting some "good fight" or something, but they're just unsatisfied little children in this.
Ugh.
mrandydixon: thanks for the tip, I'm listening to it right now
RonBurgandy2010: no you Win, that's a great film. High five
Looking up their history apparently they raided Habbo, posted porn videos on youtube and disguised them as Jonas Brothers videos. Yeah these guys are real heroes
Yeah, in protest of Anonymous, and in SUPPORT of game developers, everyone go on to PSN and buy a fun downloadable game! I recommend PixelJunk Shooter 2. Or Chime HD. These pricks can take their right to piracy and shove it. I SUPPORT the people who work hard to allow me to keep at my favorite hobby.
Pay him no mind, everyone, move along.
Yes, this whole Anonymous thing is pretty dumb and doomed to fail, but I can't possibly condone Sony's behaviour w.r.t. the people reverse engineering their tech.
I can't wait until a rogue member of Anonymous reveals his identity and his hardship while in the group. I mean serious, it's hard to resist some of the PS3 exclusive games.
The issue is that business and hackers don't usually see eye-to-eye and most often neither are right with their methods. For example, I'm against region-locking (looking at you 3DS) but it still happens and most people seem content with it.
Either way, this is another one of those times when things won't work out for those involved.
Accusing Sony of corruption and nefarious business practices for this is fucking retarded. Sony are not an evil corporation led by a Bond villain, hellbent on stealing personal data. There are no hidden evil motives that "people need to begin to awaken to!!!". This is not a situation where a company has sold client details to third parties without consent. Or where a public authority has negligently made personal details available, leading to identitiy fraud.
Sony applied for and was granted the subpoena for anti-piracy reasons (whether you agree that this is why people were seeking the info GeoHotz published or not), so that they could take direct action against people seeking the information that would enable hacking and piracy. Sony was taking this action to protect themselves, developers and legitimate consumers. If Anonymous feels that the subpoena should have been refused, that facebook and youtube should not have been directed to disclose their details in such circumstances, then protest the law. If they wanted to take a stand on misuse of personal information, they would be going after Bank of America for losing data tapes with customer's detils, or T-mobile for selling customer details, not a video games console manufacturer taking defensive action.
But seriously, I have no idea why these guys are around. I thought this whole matter was over.
Besides, Anonymous may be a bunch of skillful hackers, but they lack political tactic in their fights, because now they will be known as the bunch of kids who fight for the right to hack a game console. It sounds ridiculously childish and comical. Now they should hope they will remain anonymous forever.
