Sony has acknowledged that the PlayStation Network may have come under fire from an outside source, lending credence to the claim that the Internet's premier impersonal army, Anonymous, has been making good on its promise of trouble.
However, as Sony investigates the issue, Anonymous has demonstrated that it understands PR, having ceases its assault on the PlayStation Network out of respect to PS3 users who just want to play some videogames.
"Anonymous is not attacking the PSN at this time," stated the group. "... We realize that targeting the PSN is not a good idea. We have therefore temporarily suspended our action, until a method is found that will not severely impact Sony customers.
"Anonymous is on your side, standing up for your rights. We are not aiming to attack customers of Sony. This attack is aimed solely at Sony, and we will try our best to not affect the gamers, as this would defeat the purpose of our actions. If we did inconvenience users, please know that this was not our goal."
The group's war on Sony is a response to its ongoing civil suit against hackers Geohot and Graf_Chokolo.

Basically, they've said their attacks will end when:
1. Sony must allow for end-user modification of the PS3, as was available prior to the 3.21 firmware update.
2. Sony must end any attempts to bring legal action to alter a product they own.
3. Sony must not pursue legal action against any collected IP address.
Or, knowing anonymous, when they just get bored.

as a consumer you since April 1 you lost:
warranty and any sort of way to claim it,
you can't demand service of any sort after your ps3/psp/ngp will get bricked thanks to firmware updates or any sort of error from Sons side,
legally you don't own ps3/psp/ngp you bought and sony can brick it via firmware update any day,
you can't sue sony or demand refunds if for example your ps3 will crash and you will loose your psn games/dlc and money no your account,

Obviously most people bought a PS3 with the easily understood idea they were buying a machine that was going to run a restricted set of software (video games and proprietary apps) because that's what they wanted to do with it. Most people knew that if they wanted to do other things, they should have bought a regular computer and just installed linux because that would have been easier.
I support the "right" to modify consoles, but every torrented copy of a game or online cheat (which really isn't as rampant as people make out--I haven't seen it at all yet) is proof people simply can't handle the freedom they have. I don't think Sony would have given a single shit if they didn't think people would immediately use Hotz's and Graf's work to steal games (which they did, mostly Hotz's in that case) and if we consumers hadn't proven we couldn't be trusted with it previously (see 360 and PSP hacks). There's unfortunately no way to tell just-want-to-mess-with-it hackers from pirate hackers, so the only effective defense is to go after hackers period.
tl;dr The bed was made and now everyone has to fucking sleep in it. If people don't like it, they should have shown some maturity, morality, and responsibility by not abusing the rights they believed they had.

@acetated - Yea that's what it sounds like to me but with the nature of their group, there doesn't sound like there is a centralized leadership since they want a quasi-freedom amongst them and in their doctrine/beliefs. The problem with that is rifts that are caused naturally between people will eventually cause natural rifts in the whole group.
It ALWAYS happens overtime...its just human nature and that's why things breakdown or don't become efficiently ran anymore in life (For example, one term of the Presidency can be good but the next could be so bad etc - No guarantee of how things will ever turn out).
Anyway if they want to be more effective they need to be more cohesive, but in doing so they increase the possibility of their main hydra heads being found out and cut off by those who oppose them...and a group without leadership or focus is not a group at all.
