Announcing Trine: Panting and drooling is not unreasonable

Check that video out. I will wait.

That is some hot sh*t right there. Trine is a 2D platformer just announced today which will be coming to Playstation Network and PC next summer. In it, you will switch between three different characters, each with their own skills, to solve puzzles and traverse some really gorgeous looking levels.

The video we have in the player really doesn't do it justice. You can see how fluid the animations are, but a lot of the detail in the characters and environments are a bit fuzzy. Trust me when I say that there's some real detail going on there.

I'm trying not to get too excited, as the summer is a seeming eternity away at this point and a lot could go wrong. If this trailer is any real indication of how levels are going to be designed, however, this could be one hell of a game. It reminds me of The Lost Vikings without the multiplayer component (which, I'll admit, was a major selling point).

Venture past the jump for some more details in a handy press release, including info on the different characters and how they interact with the game world.

Lyon, France, the 5th of December 2008 – Immediate release. Nobilis and Frozenbyte are proud to announce that the fantasy action game "Trine™" (PlayStation®Network and PC) will be released in Q2 2009.

Trine™ is a fantasy action game where the player can create and use physics-based objects to beat hazardous puzzles and threatening enemies. Set in a world of great castles and strange machinery, three heroes are bound to a mysterious device called the Trine in a quest to save the kingdom from evil...

The gameplay is based on fully interactive physics - each character's different abilities helps the player battle an army of un-dead and defeat hazardous contraptions. The player can at any time freely choose whoever is best suited for the upcoming challenge or puzzle: The Wizard is able to summon objects to help solve puzzles and create new ways to overcome obstacles, the Thief uses her agility and dead-on accuracy to swiftly surprise the monsters, and the Warrior unleashes mayhem and physical destruction wherever he goes.

"This is the first game we publish on the PlayStation® Network and we are thrilled to work with Frozenbyte on this very exciting game project!" declares Arnaud Blacher, CEO of Nobilis Group.

"Trine™ is a true testament to Frozenbyte's new strategy focusing on original IP. We can't wait to have the game released on the PlayStation®Network and PC," said Lauri Hyvarinen, CEO of Frozenbyte, and he continued: "Nobilis has been a great partner to us all these years and we look forward to combining our efforts even more closely to make a great game!"

I agree with Endstiem; this would be cool on the Wii.

Actually, I think it'll be cool anywhere, but especially the Wii.

This looks really interesting, I love the art style.

I think the only part that could be better suited to the Wii controls would be summoning objects with the wizard but I didn't have any problem using the analog stick in Okami for the PS2 so I don't see how this would be any different.

It definitely has my interest. I'm hoping for an actual retail release, but I'm guessing that won't happen.

I love the lightning effects when the warrior guy hit people with his hammer. I'll be looking out for this one.

Eh, the wizard character looks like you dont require any thinking. stuck? draw a line. that's something that annoys me in games like these... they make it look like it's gonna be so much fun but it derives into a "draw line to pass" experience.

To me it looks more suited to the mouse than the wii-mote.

It's like everything the SegaCD platformers wanted to be, only without the suck.

Why only PSN and PC? I don't like playing games on either of those platforms :(

It looks awesome though, maybe I'll check it out on PC anyway.

Can you say "Do want"? Although it looks as if it might control better on PC, I'll still download it on ps3.

Holy smokes! If this isn't coming to XBLA, that's just one more reason I've been leaning towards getting a PS3.
