not really sure why we couldn't get a harem dating sim here in North America geared towards men. Cost, demographics, audience maybe? Either way, If this was released for CHEAP I'd be intrigued to play it as I do love a good harem visual novel. Though I'm not sure how much I love an all guy harem so that might be pushing it.

Odd that they chose a Japanese period piece though. Going niche is one thing, but this is starting to get a bit too niche. At least the Siliconera guys posted a picture of what looked to be like a vampire. Maybe that can bring some twilight girls in.

I might get this, even though I'm not attracted to men. Ever since I played 999 I've been dying to play some quality visual novels. Fate/Extra also sounds interesting, so I might get that as well.

Hakuouki seems like an odd choice for localization. I was expecting that Aksys would choose to translate a game which included simulation gameplay, such as Wand of Fortune, or Otometeki Kakumei Koi Love Revo. Instead, the company chose a visual novel which does not seem to have added gameplay. And they chose the PSP platform, even though the PSP is not often considered viable, and even though Hakuouki is also available on DS, 3DS, and PS3. This all seems to suggest a serious financial risk. While I like visual novels and romance games, and while I still buy PSP games every now and then, I know that not many English speaking fans share my tastes.

As of this writing, fans of reverse harem games only have a modest number of options available in English. Hirameki released Yo-Jin-Bo for computers just a few months before the company folded. Natsume released Princess Debut for the DS. A few small companies have released visual novels for iOS such as Heian Love and Renai Shugi Road to Emerald. Independent game groups such as Hanako Games and Winter Wolves have been releasing a good number of women-oriented complex games such as Magical Diary and Always Remember Me. And there is a decent amount of freeware, ranging from Flash games such as Chrono Days Sim Date to games made with Renpy such as RE: Alistair.

Great news. No seriously, as a fan of the visual novel genre and what little otome we HAVE gotten over in the US, this is great. Awesome alternative for those who want to play dating sims, but may not want all the H-games prevalent in the English market.

Also, Nintendo of America. Do you see this? Do you know what this is? This is Aksys. Their mission in gaming is to release niche games to the fans and still manage to turn a profit. They are not a big company. They are still good. Please take notes.
