I can understand that American ideal of making more money than you did the previous year. But at a certain point that need becomes so conceited. They have a huge, successful franchise that will sell just fine, but they feel the need to milk it for every Penny they can at consumer's expense. Why? When you have millions coming in, but you still need more? Nobody is ever happy with what they have.
I'm sure some of you kids go out of your way to be pissed off about nothing.
I think they'll fix this. They need to pander like a motherfucker.
Game looks and sounds like a real game-changer, a real milestone for the genre and possibly gaming in general! I don't care if they give out hand jobs to pre-orders and I was missing out, i want it, I want it in my body, as soon as fucking possible.
It isn't so much the gun and item or two RIGHT NOW. It's the whole of the concept. IF I pre-order, I get this... IF I DO NOT, I am left out. It's essentially a strong arming tactic. They are saying "Buy our game on the terms we dictate to you or you won't get this." As Skribble said, once they note that the gaming community accepts this, what's stopping them from making this content far more significant?
Many dopes fall for this bait and switch shit all the time. You accept it and when they begin to piss in your face, you accept it some more. After all, you can't be left out. When all you had to do was step on their neck at the start and let them know you saw exactly what they were up to from the start.
Pro Tip: these won't be great weapons, more than likely, you will find something better or equivalent within a half hour of playing the game. There aren't going to be only 8 guns in the game, there will be tons of weapons in this game.
DICE isn't going to release an unbalanced game. I fucking hate gamers almost as much as Activision.
I am annoyed however at not getting my exclusive items unless I order from specific retailers - that right there is bullshit - I can't pre-order through my preferred site (Play) because it isn't included in the Physical Warfare package. It's one thing encouraging gamers to pre-order, but making them use specific retailers is somewhat galling.
No, its a bonus for people who buy the game on the simple faith that it will be good, without even knowing critic scores. I don't care what product I was selling, but if there are people willing to throw down $60 for a product they don't know will be good or not, i'd think I would like to hook those people up.
Then again much like CoD guys they knew you'd pay for it regardless.
Seriously, what other product are people willing to drop this kind of money for, sight unseen? What benefit is there to us to do this? Why are we willing to shell out cash (sure, it's just $5 up front... that's $5 more than it should be) weeks or even months in advance in order to be allowed to shell out another $55 later? It's to the point that the guy at the register will look at you like you're an idiot if you attempt to buy a game you didn't pre-order on launch day. I actually got laughed at trying to buy MW2 on release day without a pre-order.
Why? Why couldn't they just have enough copies? Why is it so unreasonable that I expected to be able to walk into a video game store and buy a new video game? Just... doesn't make any sense to me.
I see preordering as a bonus, like an art book or something so dropping $5 is really not that big of a deal at all.
The funny thing is that I am willing to best that ALL games will the limited edition for a looooong time. I still see Limited Editions of BFBC2 at Walmart and that was the pre-order "bonus", just like this one as the code will be packaged in with the game, they just want to secure early pucrhases of the game.
Im willing to be money that BF3 will do that same thing as BC2 and it won't be just a preorder bonus.
"uys, we're talking about DICE here, who puts out the most balanced multiplayer experiences in the industry these days. I'd be very surprised if these "bonus weapons" *actually* result in a competitive advantage. "
First of all, it's not DICE that's choosing the preorder incentives, it's EA. Secondly, it's not just "bonus weapons". The sniper weapon allows for a better kind of ammo and increased stealth. The bonus's certainly sound like they would give a competitive advantage.
"and bollocks is it punishing people... its REWARDING there loyal day 1 purchasers. Wouldnt be much of a reward or bonus if u could just download it the next day for a couple of bucks."
Well then it looks like EA has you right where they want you. Bent over and ready to take it. Good for you, I guess.
Once again, it is just a gun and some ammo right now. But when you support little things like this, you are telling the publisher it is OK, and it leads to more expansive implementations. Soon enough, when you buy from Gamestop you will get an exclusive vehicle, or more missions. Hell, Arkham City is a great example of this bullshit! You get a completely NEW CHARACTER that entails different gameplay options, that is completely inaccessible by other players, just by ordering from BestBuy.
It's content cut from the game to make people buy from certain stores. They are removing parts of the game and swapping them with retailers for advertising and marketing purposes. It's not cool!
Lots of people here today need to get laid. Urgently.
"I can't believe how much of a big deal people are making of this. It's a fucking video game."
Today I learned that by NOT buying video games, you're making a statement that you need to get laid. How very enlightening.
Correction: -> are essentially "punished" for *NOT* wanting to commit to a game before it's released.
Or did I get the rest of the paragraph wrong?
They're THANKING customers who decided to help them figure out how many discs to print.
Congratulations on utterly missing my point. Allow me to elaborate.
It is pathetic to get so wound up over a computer game. Perhaps releasing this tension with vigorous sex would allow many of the people here a better perspective of what is and what isn't important in life.
Not buying the game is fine. Ranting like it's the end of the world over a game is pathetic.
Hopefully that's clears it up for you but I'm guessing it hasn't. Your reply suggest someone who isn't willing to take a reasonable view when it's handed to him on a silver platter.
Problem I have with Boycott's is that the majority of people claiming they will boycott it, probably won't. Most of these people probably have and do pre-order games just for bonuses that other people don't get. And like some one said earlier, people are self entitled cunts.
It's almost impossible to read about any video game without a group of people having a huge stupid stink about it. The only reason these practices come into place is because people buy into it.
If the gaming industry means something to somebody, who are you to say it doesn't matter? Life is what you love. If you don't care, good shit. But don't go around acting all superior just because you don't care as much as they do.
The sooner you realize people are passionate about different things, the sooner you will stop making stupid statements like that in your initial comment.
Also, EA can suckle a fat teat. Everytime I read about pre-order exclusives I get pissed off. What a stupid money grab.
MW3 and BF3 can both go pound sand. I'll be far too busy playing Gears 3.
If you're going to avoid a great experience because you don't get a few crappy weapons (that will undoubtedly be nerfed to hell), and you're ALSO not smart enough to realize they're bound to sell the package at a later date (because they like money from idiots), then you don't need to be playing anything more challenging than Sesame Street Kinect.
There's a difference between being passionate and trying to chokehold the industry into what you believe it should be. All I see are people confusing the 2 views.
It's easier to anonymously rant online about something that isn't important than actually try and tackle a real life issue.
P.S. They're just PASSIONATE!!1!1!
It's not a money grab as your $5 deposit goes towards the game, it's not some sign up fee.
@SynthJunkie
Agreed!
Pre-orders get the Expansion pack. That's pretty nice and fine.
THE PROBLEM IS, that they are giving the "Physical Warfare" pack ONLY AT SELECT RETAILERS. So if you already pre-ordered from Origin for example, well you're out of luck. Or if you live in a country that doesn't have these "select retailers" you're also out of luck.
THAT'S the problem.
Really? Do you have a link?
I thought peope were crying about the "free" map packs, lol. So like Bestbuy bought some "warefare" exclusive DLC pack to entise people to pre-order from them over someone else.
That makes a little more sense.
