What. In. The. Hell? Angry Birds was downloaded 6.5 million times on Christmas Day? It's like every device given at Christmas was gifted solely for use with Rovio's silly game. This massive one-day figure includes both free and paid downloads, and all versions of the game. That's right at the number of smartphone activations that took place over Christmas, says AllThingsD.
“We’re really excited to have such a massive number of new people get acquainted with Angry Birds over the holidays — we have exciting new releases lined up for 2012, and can’t wait to introduce them to the public,” said Rovio’s Ville Heijari.
New releases? There's going to be more of this crap? Neat. Someone fling me into a building and let the rubble fall on me.

Though I'm guilty of having it on my phone... It's a good pooping game, 'ya know? But still, I'm honestly not surprised that it sold that much, people love this shit.

Hahaha, I had no idea there was hatred amongst the Destructoid staff for this game. I don't understand why though - it's pretty fun, and if you're stacking it up against triple-A console titles, you're an idiot. It kind of smacks of video game elitism to me.
I can think of 4 people who simply got a new phone and re-downloaded.
Personally I didn't get that pulled into Angry Birds, too simple minded. I prefer my Game Dev Story for my toilet gaming. :]

Okay, tell you what, everyone who is turning their noses up at this game, what mobile games do you recommend over Angry Birds? Because I feel like a lot of the disconnect is coming from the fact that this isn't a game that you play on the scale of say, Skyrim.
This game is designed to kill time between doing other things. For gamers, this means that when you're at work, and you have 7 minutes to take a shit, you bust this game out because you're not gonna bring your PSP to the john and play 7 minutes of Peace Walker. For non-gamers, that 7 minutes on the john is all the attention span for video games any of them has.
