Miyamoto loves Angry Birds, wishes he'd made it
Love it or hate it, Angry Birds is still a massive deal, as evidenced by the ludicrous amount of merchandise surrounding it. While it's become cool to despise, legendary videogame developer Shigeru Miyamoto has taken its side, praising the game and confessing that he wishes it was his.
"Angry Birds is a very simple idea but it's one of those games that I immediately appreciated when I first started playing, before wishing that I had been the one to come up with the idea first," he told HookShot. "I mean, obviously I want to be the one creating the most convincing, surprising game ideas.
"Obviously, if the developer had created the game for Nintendo DS the controls would have been even better, but what can you do?"
I've defended Angry Birds for quite some time. Yes, Rovio is shameless in its prostitution of the brand, but Angry Birds is a simple and effective game that has a lot in common with the retro classics that hardcore gamers love to wax nostalgic about. So there. Setup email comments
