Analysts show some Sony love photo

For over a year now, dumping on Sony's PS3 was the cool thing to do. Some say that they shot themselves in the foot with a high launch price tag and a lack of strong launch titles, and somehow that negative energy escalated into a bashing trend that looked like it would never end.

Since then, Sony has seen the light, and the recent price drop and increased number of titles has helped them gain some ground. It looks like industry analysts have noticed.

Macquarie Security's David Gibson says, "It's certainly a sign that the momentum of the PS3 business is improving. The PS3 and the games business is past the worst in terms of financial losses and the sales momentum is improving because of the price cut and the new model."

Sony isn't winning by any means, but at least one analyst thinks that things should have started out this way.

"Going forward another 12 months or so I'm sure we'll see better titles turning up as well. I wouldn't say Sony's back on form and everything is going to be OK now but it feels like the proper launch this year," said Hiroshi Kamide, an analyst at KBC Securities.

Finally, an analyst who, according to CNN Money, did not want to be named says, "The PS3 has already seen the worst and finally you are seeing sales rebounding. The fact that you are seeing the PS3 already gaining traction in Japan and also putting a lot of pressure on Nintendo I think is significant."

Good for Sony. They must already know that they can't stop now. They still have a lot of work to do, and I think that they know that their old cocky ways should be avoided at all cost. Keep it up!

Why would an analyst say something and want to remain anonymous? i understand if it has to do with info not public or if the person works for one of the other companies. but you would typically think that an analyst would want his name to be attached to their analysis.

also, i have to disagree. Sony is not out of the fire yet. They still have a long way to catch up, and they aren't even close to putting pressure on Nintendo in any way.

There are only 2 PS3 titles that have sold over 1 million copies worldwide, those two being Resistance and Motorstorm, two launch games. The 360 has 29 titles that have sold over 1 million and the Wii, 11.

Sony might have had an increase in hardware sales but their software sales are complete shit still.

ok whats the point of the whole oh you gotta catch up to nintendo and 360 in order to be out of fire. screw that. if they are on a rebound and are doing well even without releasing their big titles than good for em. im sure theyll gain even more momentum when final fantasy killzone and mgs come out. thats not to say 360 and wii will perish because of sony but its looking like all three consoles will soon be getting closer to equality in terms of games out and the fanbase.

Congrats to Sony. The more competitive each of the three companies are means increased benefits for the entire gaming community. The best result we can hope for in this is that Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo keep going strong. If one company becomes ridiculously dominant (or really ridiculously good looking) they become lazy and stop listening to the consumers.

Sony is back on track. I think in early 2008 till xmas 2008, sony will dominate, they have the best games coming out then. while no one else has anything really relevant.

I still think my predictions will be true. I think sony will sell 300 million if the world doesn't end. i think that will be their sales mark in 9 years from now.

Sony is the fat kid in PE. It doesn't look like they have much of a chance at winning anything but they'll still pass for showing up, assuming cardiac arrest doesn't happen first.

While it's still fashionably vogue to shit on Sony's PS3 the momentum is there.

@Namelessted:

They may not have had many million unit sellers but there is an audible shift in sales now. You can't live in the past but you can certainly learn from it. Which it looks like they're doing with the price cuts and the Games coming out now and early '08.

Personally I think they have a long way to go too but this whole "Sony PS3 is Shit" tag is getting old. At least get one first if your going to talk shit about it.

And this isn't a fanboy rant..I own all three consoles. I love 360, but the ps3 has alot to offer as well. Now if the Wii could bring out great games from other dev's aside from Nintendo life would be good.

What big games are coming out? I ask this genuinely, out of real interest, and not in mockery.

I really don't think the PS3 has any other big games coming out for the rest of the year. Though I could be wrong on that...

But it is nice to see sony actually coming up. Especially after I was talking about them focusing more on the Blu-Ray.

Dammit. There do sound like some good games in there. I don't like my chances of convincing my wife that I need to add a PS3 to my 360 and Wii though.

It still sucks. Best thing the PS3 is good for is playing Blu-Ray movies and running linux. Admittedly, I do enjoy using it for these purposes. Just not for playing games. Because they suck.

i beg to differ from ochan and sub. ive had 360 and ps3 side by side for months and i always go back to playing ps3 for larger amounts of time. i also have those big name titles on 360 such as gears of war(awesome game), halo 3(overhyped and sucks), bioshock, and skate(runs better on 360.) warhawk, uncharted, call of duty 4, heavenly sword, and assassins creed have been on my gaming line up for ps3 which leads me to believe that most 3rd party titles that are worth playing are available on both consoles and sony's future exclusive line up has a bit more to offer than the 360 has coming up. left for dead and ninja gaiden 2 are the big games i cant wait to play on 360 but every game the above posts mentioned (killzone2, littlebigplanet, mgs4, final fantasy) are exclusives i cant wait to play on ps3 so your choice of platform is just a matter of preference but the sony bashing for lack of good games and no future is just garbage.

Hhmmm, ...so far the only decent game I have played was gears of war the rest was one fps after another on the 360. Why didnt microsoft just come out with the tag of "FPS 360". Everything else they have is on every other system.

I dont know about the rest of you but I'm really tired of first person shooters on the 360.

Thank god I got assassins creed on the ps3 instead, I still havent gotten my 360 back in the mail.
