For over a year now, dumping on Sony's PS3 was the cool thing to do. Some say that they shot themselves in the foot with a high launch price tag and a lack of strong launch titles, and somehow that negative energy escalated into a bashing trend that looked like it would never end.
Since then, Sony has seen the light, and the recent price drop and increased number of titles has helped them gain some ground. It looks like industry analysts have noticed.
Macquarie Security's David Gibson says, "It's certainly a sign that the momentum of the PS3 business is improving. The PS3 and the games business is past the worst in terms of financial losses and the sales momentum is improving because of the price cut and the new model."
Sony isn't winning by any means, but at least one analyst thinks that things should have started out this way.
"Going forward another 12 months or so I'm sure we'll see better titles turning up as well. I wouldn't say Sony's back on form and everything is going to be OK now but it feels like the proper launch this year," said Hiroshi Kamide, an analyst at KBC Securities.
Finally, an analyst who, according to CNN Money, did not want to be named says, "The PS3 has already seen the worst and finally you are seeing sales rebounding. The fact that you are seeing the PS3 already gaining traction in Japan and also putting a lot of pressure on Nintendo I think is significant."
Good for Sony. They must already know that they can't stop now. They still have a lot of work to do, and I think that they know that their old cocky ways should be avoided at all cost. Keep it up!
Also, zero
also, i have to disagree. Sony is not out of the fire yet. They still have a long way to catch up, and they aren't even close to putting pressure on Nintendo in any way.
There are only 2 PS3 titles that have sold over 1 million copies worldwide, those two being Resistance and Motorstorm, two launch games. The 360 has 29 titles that have sold over 1 million and the Wii, 11.
Sony might have had an increase in hardware sales but their software sales are complete shit still.
I still think my predictions will be true. I think sony will sell 300 million if the world doesn't end. i think that will be their sales mark in 9 years from now.
Thank you for the awesome comparison.
@Namelessted:
They may not have had many million unit sellers but there is an audible shift in sales now. You can't live in the past but you can certainly learn from it. Which it looks like they're doing with the price cuts and the Games coming out now and early '08.
Personally I think they have a long way to go too but this whole "Sony PS3 is Shit" tag is getting old. At least get one first if your going to talk shit about it.
And this isn't a fanboy rant..I own all three consoles. I love 360, but the ps3 has alot to offer as well. Now if the Wii could bring out great games from other dev's aside from Nintendo life would be good.
What big games are coming out? I ask this genuinely, out of real interest, and not in mockery.
But it is nice to see sony actually coming up. Especially after I was talking about them focusing more on the Blu-Ray.
Unreal Tournament 3, Haze, Little Big Planet, Metal gear Solid 4, Killzone 2, Gran turismo, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIII Versus, Echocrome not to mention apps like Home.
Who knows maybe another Ridge RAAAACER!!...lol.
Reistance 2, Infamous, MGSO.
also Ut3 is 2007 not 08.
the ps3 dosent have 1 good game
plz dont talk about games that will come out in the future
I dont know about the rest of you but I'm really tired of first person shooters on the 360.
Thank god I got assassins creed on the ps3 instead, I still havent gotten my 360 back in the mail.
