Analyst speculates that EA could fire your ass photo

With the economy screwing over people left and right, its not a big shock to hear that EA jobs may be the next on the line. At least, that's what Lazard Capital Markets analyst Colin Sebastian seems to think. From his comments:

"Importantly, we believe EA is continuing to review its cost structure and franchise base, and it is possible that management will announce further cuts in headcount and the development pipeline (including existing franchises) over the coming quarters."

While titles like Dead Space and FIFA 09 have performed well, reviews have remained mixed on many of their other offerings, including the much-hyped Mirror's Edge. Sebastian also mentions that while EA may take action to cut jobs and possibly halt some franchises, that the company will likely still fare well in the long run:

"We believe EA will leverage its early investments and significant resources in online distribution, emerging business models (e.g., free-to-play), and geographical diversity to maintain growth of its core franchise base, as well as further expand its partners/distribution business. We also believe management will continue to opportunistically seek further acquisition candidates, including developers and/or publishers with proven franchise successes."

Both Dead Space and Mirror's Edge were a pretty pleasant surprise for a gamer like me, who's not much into sports titles, so I am really hoping to see more efforts from them like that, even if the titles weren't perfect. Are you excited to see EA testing new waters?

It is nice to see EA trying new, very different things - firing people not being one of them. This makes me wonder if the higher-ups are so hard-up for Football, that they panicked when someone tried something new and it wasn't 100% liked instantly.

I want EA to work on a new SSX in the style of the third game...
I allways felt really relaxed just going down the whole mountain with no other goal but to have fun.

More like DeadSpace please! I'm at the end now and I'm loving it. Great game. Not the most original game in some ways, but it's not a sequel, it's got a ton of polish, and the visuals and sound are amazing.

I'll be picking up ME eventualy, but hearing it was short and repetative has detered me.

Possible future headline: EA axes everything except it's sports games. Why innovate when you can churn out yearly football games that sports addicts will consistently fork over their $60.00 for?

^ Amen to that, been waiting for a new-gen SSX for what seems like AGES, and going back just isn't the same since 360 backcompat won't run SSX3 in 16:9.

While I'm dying for another SSX game like 3 it's not going to happen anytime soon. I believe EA has already said they're not interested in the SSX franchise at this time.

EA pretty much fucked the series up with On Tour and Blur was just... Words can't describe how much EA Montreal fucked that up.

It's sad that EA has been hurting since switching their tactics to actually releasing new IPs that are mostly good. =(

I don't think Mirror's Edge really HAS been getting mixed reviews all that much.

Basically, all the reviews are 7's, 8's and 9's. Seems pretty standard for an 8/10 game if you ask me.

The few really low reviews seem to be from people who were simply really bad at the game. I can see it being a pretty frustrating game if your FPS and reaction time skills aren't up to par.

I'll be more than happy for EA to fire me.
Then I file for more unemployment compensation through the state of California!

I don't think I own any current EA games...

Is it my fault? :(

Despite its faults, Mirror's Edge was the first EA game I've bought since...heck, I honestly don't remember. And if they do another one which keeps the cool stuff and improves on the weaknesses of the first, I'll be first on line to buy it. I certainly hope it performs well enough to warrant further efforts in that direction.
