We love the Wii. Its innovative control scheme, excellent graphical output, and capacity to carry nothing but the highest grade of software has certainly smitten the majority of us. Of course, the first-party titles are what really make the machine grand – and that’s why we’re excited about Colin Sebastian’s hunch that a new Zelda game will hit in 2009.
Sebastian is an analyst at Lazard Capital Markets. He’s not as popular as Michael Pachter quite yet, but it appears as though he is blazing a trail for instant Internet stardom. According to a recent investor’s note (via Gamespot), Sebastian cited 22 games destined to carry sales in 2009. One of those titles was an unannounced Zelda.
The key is that this is just speculation. At the same rate, the guy gets paid to make solid predictions. Will there be a new Zelda? We’ll have to see as 2009 kicks into gear.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
And if a new Zelda comes out next year, I will eat my hat.
I hope to be proven wrong, I really do.
I'd rather have a Wind Waker remake..
Maybe it's just me, but this reeks of sarcasm :V
It's weird that Nintendo is yet to bring any of their big names to WiiWare.
@Infinite Obscurity
Every Zelda game since Ocarina of Time has been released within 2-3 years of each other. Since it would be 3 years since TP was released by the end of 2009, it's not too unlikely that we will see a new Zelda the coming year. Besides, Reggie said (if his words are to be believed...) that Nintendo are going to focus on announcing titles closer to their release, so we might see an announcement very soon.
As for why Nintendo hasn't announced it yet, it might have something to do with the fact that Twilight Princess was overhyped because they announced it so far in advance of its launch, and they don't want to make the same mistake in the future.
I would disagree with that on multiple levels.
The service as a whole has been a home for garbage, save for the first week, the week Mega Man 9 came out, and the week World of Goo came out.
Eternity's Child doesn't even want to be there anymore . . . zing!
As for the story, I don't think it'll happen. Zelda games are usually announced at least a year in advance.
I've also been wondering about Nintendo's absence from the WiiWare scene. Even remakes of stuff like Mario 3 and the original Zelda in updated graphics (hand-drawn would rock) would be nice.
No fucking chance of it coming out next year? You realize, of course, that there has been roughly three years' interval between each console Zelda game since Ocarina of Time, and Twilight Princess has been out for two years...
You know what would be epic ? Majora#s MAsk upgraded to current-gen controls and greaphics. Not too much work for the story writers, also, everything is already translated - you only have to slap on some good graphics and controls, and you'll get free review blowjobs all 'round, especially since most of the people who have a Wii now may never have really played Majora's Mask.
Seriously, upgraded remakes would at least be better then all the Wii-whoring third party bandwagon shit that pulls the Wii into its badly programmed cesspool of moneymonging.
WII NEEDS MOAR NINTENDO.
