Then again I don't use a cell phone and can't see myself buying one at any point in the near future, so what do I know?
Bonus points if they try to appeal beyond their existing fanbase by calling it something other than a "PSPhone".
They're really gonna have to work on making everything cheap. I would pay full price for full PSP games, but as the article says, those PSP minis are a waste of time and money. Make them cheaper, and the phone has to be competitively priced.
Well, iPhone 4 users probably had a phone. before your current phone, you also probably had a phone. today most people change phones ins a 1-2 year cycle. As a person who does not have infinite pockets, I welcome the idea.
But yeah, what really fucks up the psp model are the high prices imposed by sony. I honestly hope that in the next gen the proper consoles have an open challenger. games cost 2 bucks on the pc, and 15 on the psn/xbla, because they price fix. I don't have an iPhone/Android yet, but I'd like to see them get a lot of market share with their pricing model, so sony, microsoft and nintendo may get a hint.
There must be an affordable way to combine the devices by now. It's not like it would need to have all the same features as an iPhone, or a Blackberry. Hell just add a phone dialer to the current menu that allows me do dial using the dpad and buttons, let me talk through a headset, and I'd buy one right now.
If the PSP Phone is a PSP2 with an Android platform smart phone built into it... it's like PSP Tier 2.5. It is a PSP2 with additional functionality. And not everyone has a smart phone, while they are penetrating the market more as time goes on, not everyone has one. And not everyone has one they want to keep for years to come.
With the tactile controls that the PSP Phone would have, it beats the iPhone hands down. Like seriously, have you tried playing games that try to emulate an analog stick and buttons on an iPhone? It's severely lacking.
I, for one, welcome our new smart phone overlords. (Well, they probably wouldn't kill the market, but I'd certainly love to have one)
When I take breaks at work, I have to dick around on the internet with my phone. I'd like to be playing my PSP. But guess what? I can't. I have too much other shit in my pocket to be bringing my PSP along.
Turn 2 devices into 1, and I won't have to decide. I'll upgrade in a heartbeat.
Well JPN is a fantasy twilight zone. That's where beautiful Asian women fall from the sky and everyone is a hero on an epic journey to rediscover their past...right?
I love my psp.
It is a bit big for my pocket though.
My phone is always in my pocket.
I like to play games on my phone, but they generally pale in insignificance compared to the games on my psp.
This thing is so aimed directly at my face, and if it becomes real, it will probably reach it's Target, via my wallet, in monthly payments that I'm going to be paying anyway.
So, uh, yeah.
Plus, if the PS Phone is going touchscreen.. no thank you. When I game, I prefer a controller, not having my fingers covering up parts of the screen. I really don't see them doing much else besides touch screen or it will make the phone too big and to me that defeats the purpose when you have the PSP and PSPGo. I like my phones to be small, and sleek, not a big uncomfortable brick in my pocket, besides it'll "distract from my natural bulge."
This actually has the potential to bury the iPhone if Sony doesn't try to lock it down too much. And if they do lock it down, XDA will make it into a stock Android phone with an amazing slide-out controller.
You should come and visit sometime.
Anyway glad to hear you liked it. With so many great games I tend to forget those beaches exist.
May need to drop the controller and make some use of them :-)
It could be that there will be no such thing as "PlayStation apps" per se, but rather Sony will just build a market for the PlayStation Phone that uses current Android apps already out there while at the same time brining in new apps that work specifically for the PS Phone using the current Android SKDs. That would be simpler.
That would mean the following:
1) PS Phone plays PSP games
2) PS Phone plays PSP2 games
3) PS Phone plays PS Phone Android apps (The $2 buck market that competes with iTunes)
The idea that Phone nuts don't *want* a PSP. Well, isn't that within the framework of what we know the past PSPs to be? What about a new PSP2 that encompasses all the new technology will bring minus UMD and includes dual-sticks (digital) and touch screen!
Remember, all the PSP MP3/Movie tech will be there. And you wont be forced to use the duel-stick buttons to navigate; it will have touch screen just like the iPhone for that.
I do fear that if the PS Phone does many things good, but nothing great is a danger. But why are we treating PSP2 tech like it's "gold?" Heck, we used to think the iPod tech was "amazing" now it's just comes with the iPhone. The PS Phone should do the same thing.
Think about it. Release a PS Phone without PSP2 game playing capability and you end up with the very same market we had before. Two devices that clutter up your life.
Jim, tell me I'm wrong. I have an iPhone. I wont get a PS Phone unless it offers more than that I have. The PSP2 tech is that *more* I talk about.
They could offer the PSP2 alone, sure. But not at the expense of releasing a PS Phone without PSP2 game playing capability.
At least release different models that offer choice.
