And what race are they making fun of, exactly? They look like living marionettes. Is this racism against Muppets?
It's a stretch, but i think that he just assumes that anything that has tribal characteristics is automatically racist against Africans.
Anyway, having played Tri (a LOT), I've noticed some things in the screens that were posted here. Namely, it looks like a lot of the UI elements are able to accommodate more characters thanks to a skinnier font. Sadly, it looks like that isn't the case in the text chat. And if the voice chat is as busted as it was in Tri, then text chat would again be the de facto way to communicate online. Sometimes I had to enter 3 different lines just to get one sentence's worth due to the chunky characters (clearly designed for Japanese).
Also haven't seen any screens of the online user interface. Here's hoping they've improved that cause it was downright embarrassing in Tri.
Looking at Portable 3rd HD wich only runs in 720p natively.....
the Wii U is clearly just on par with current gen !!!
Will get this, but I´m not sure if I will pick up both versions...
mhh...
A bunch of clearly dark skinned marionettes wearing skulls and shells while essentially saying "OOGA BOOGA BOOGA" isn't racist? Maybe it's not mean-spirited but that doesn't mean the game isn't contributing to a stereotype.
The only thing contributing to the "stereotype" are the people who keep saying its a stereotype. I hadnt even considered any African reference until I read your comment, if anything I was reminded more of Patapon games.
geez
Game looks simply too great, I'm going for the 3DS version but damn this is tempting, may grab it with a Wii U
I will still probably buy it; but I am far less excited...
the 3ds one looks great in its own right, actually. Especially since it has dynamic lighting and maintains consistent frame rate even in 3d.
Can't wait to play this in English with my bro. ^o^
Anyway, I'm very excited about getting MH3U for Wii U despite having spent so much time playing MH Tri, but all that new content will be worthwhile.
I get what you are saying, I really do. However, I understand people not buying because of the missing online. People can't be expected to support products simply because that support will lead to additional releases; I am not investing in a future game when I buy a new release. If you don't have friend that have a 3DS, and I don't have a single one that lives close to me, then Monster Hunter isn't even close to as fun. Played alone, Monster Hunter is half as enjoyable as it is when played with friends.
That's what I thought.
That's what I thought.
Maybe because people play games and not companies. Just because you don't like a particular output from a company doesn't mean you can't enjoy its other avenues.
Getting so emotionally wrapped up in stuff that doesn't relate to the quality of the games is a waste of your time and energy.
All hail time-consumming games!
How is that relevant? Those game are OLD; very dated. What is common place now wasn't in previous generations; to draw a comparison between a game that is being released now and a game that was released four years ago is absolutely asinine.
Also, by using the adhoc party feature, all of the Monster Hunter games on the PSP had an online mode.
So basically, your argument was incredibly poorly thought out?
Yeah, that's what I thought.
I agree with you. Capcom's naturally taking a risk by releasing MH3U for 3DS without online play and it is going to hurt the sales of the game. One can't blame some 3DS owners for refusing to buy it.
I think their complaint has more to do with financial investment than emotional investment. It sounds they're both existing Monster Hunter fans, but they have no interest whatsoever in paying $300 for a Wii U just to play it online. And I think that's a fair complaint, although they could have worded it a bit better.
The big problem is that international audiences see the Wii U as "more stupid crap they don't want". Fair or not, that's how it's perceived, and Nintendo has done little to change that perception. If Capcom puts the one thing they want on something they hate and are expected to pay a lot of money for, then they're going to be hated for it. Hell, I'd say unless public perception of the Wii U changes, they're setting themselves up to fail again. I really don't see the logic in this decision at all. Monster Hunter Portable 3rd on PSP and its HD counterpart on PS3 would make infinitely more sense than this.
Don't get me wrong, I'm still going to buy it, but you can see how this looks to other, more jaded, Monster Hunter fans. It doesn't help that international audiences have been skipped over for the games on non-Nintendo consoles over the past four years.
There's also just the problem of how the Wii U is viewed. Nintendo's press conference at E3 did little to help this sentiment either. I myself felt like Gaijin 4koma in reverse when I heard about the Ultimate announcement. It was like: "Monster Hunter!", "Yeah!". "On Wii U!", "...shit".
I actually wrote an article on this if anyone would care to read it.

Thats total bullshit. Thats also the line between people who care about the industry and those that dont. If you support companies that keep up with terrible business practices, you are 100% supporting said practices, period.
Monster Hunter has succeeded in the West much more on the Wii than on either the PS2 or PSP. Going forward, it looks like Nintendo is throwing a level of support behind the series that Sony didn't seem willing to offer in order to make it a global property. If you want the series to be a success outside of Japan, this will be the best course of action.
@Raby
You remind me of those people who, after 9/11, would say, "Unless you agree with everything the American government says and does, you must be on the terrorists' side." There is no place for such absolutes.
@Shippoyasha
The game IS online. On Wii U.
Fair point, but the first Monster Hunter game on the PS2 was deeply flawed and relied on the system's (at least in my recollection) crap online suite. And PSPs weren't exactly a hit over here. I'm not saying the Wii installment was less successful than Unite and Freedom 2, I'm saying that I believe the franchise could be more successful on other home consoles than it ever was on the Wii.
It sold like half a million on Wii
Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD came out on PS3 in Japan. It did... alright. Monster Hunter Frontier is on PC and 360 in Japan. I don't know about the PC version, but the 360 version sold pitifully.
Now, you COULD say that it MH3 would sell more on PS3 and 360 out West than on Wii, but there's no proof that would happen. Only "gut feelings," and gut feelings have steered everyone wrong this past generation. We've had examples of games going from Wii to HD platforms, and aside from Tales of Graces, all the games wound up performing WORSE.
