An 8-bit version of Dark Void? I would buy this thing! photo

I've been a champion for Capcom's Dark Void since I saw it early last year. Combining Airtight Studios' air-combat pedigree with a jet-pack and some machine guns? Sold.

But this 8-bit concept for the title that Capcom's cooked up for April Fools' day is as glorious -- if not more so -- than the version that actually hits PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC later this year. They've given the title a retro makeover, complete with a classic 8-bit title screen, a familiar Mega Man-esque sprite of the game's main character, and a remix of the game's main theme.

You can see more of it over at the official Capcom blog, where you'll likely be convinced that you need this thing now. Fire up the Internet petition machine... we really want to see Dark Void go 8-bit. (That worked for Bionic Commando Wii, right? Right?)

Heh, I'll wait for the Dark Void HD Remix :p

April Fool's Day is weird for the video game industry. They release awesome ideas that they know their fans will love, watch as we stumble over the massive boners we get and then laugh as they take it all away from us. Yeah it's a great gag but I find it funnier for us since they don't seem to notice the wads of money we're throwing at them.

@ Celica- I think that developers often use April Fools to release info on fake games that they wish they could make.

I got to talk with the director of Dark Void at E3 last year, and we ended up spending just as much time talking about how excited we were for Mega Man 9 as we did talking about Dark Void.

It would probably just play like the NES Rocketeer game. And that game kind of sucked.

Was I not clear that this was an April Fools' gag?

The question still remains: How do you use a jetpack without setting your own ass on fire?

@nick, I think you were as clear as you could be without bold text. Situational awareness, people

Words can't express my general LOVE of what Capcom was and has become. That 8-bit version of their title theme is spectacular

No need for a petition, this'll almost definitely get put into the game as a bonus mode, probably after you beat it.

If you listen to 0:33-0:39 of the 8-bit theme music it sounds like it's taken directly from Muse's 'Take A Bow', which is fine by me because they both kick ass
