Amy's PlayStation 3 price to be decided by Facebook poll photo

Lexis Numérique recently announced the price and release date for their upcoming downloadable game, Amy. The survival horror title is set to drop next week, but that's not all fans have to be excited about. The developer announced the PSN version would cost $12.99, which seems like a deal until you hear that it's $2.99 more than the XBLA equivalent of 800 Microsoft points.

CEO José Sanchis says that the incongruity in price between consoles can be blamed on foreign exchange rates and the amorphous nature of Microsoft's moon bucks. While he argues that the game is worth much more than either asking price, Sanchis is content to let the fans decide the game's cost.

The French developer has set up a Facebook poll to let the fans decide whether or not the PSN price should remain or be reduced to $9.99. Sounds like an easy decision, but if the game receives a reduction Amy will need to be rescheduled for release at a later date. Ah, the bittersweet fruits of democracy.

Who the hell would vote against it being cheaper? And why would it have to be released at a later date?

@Bishna:
There will be a PC version, it's just delayed. I hope they make it $9 so all the 360 fans have something to whine about, too.

I wouldn't give two shits less if it was cheaper on pc. I think the lil fellas deserve it after pouring such ludicrous amounts into their rigs every year. Lil fellas gots to eat too ya know.

They can't have honestly thought people would have been ok with this. They should have either bumped up the 360 version's price to match or cut the ps3 version's price in the us. It should have never gotten to this, and even if it came out as planned, I wouldn't get it for ps3 just out of principle, so I can wait.

There shouldn't be a fucking poll in the first place, nor any news around it. Perhaps his story checks out on a basic fundamental level, but how has every single game released on the two networks before this gotten around it if they couldn't with their own? Either they're completely incompetent or there's more to this issue than this half-assed explanation.

Probably both.

Matt Edwards: Stop being such a dumbass. There is no evidence of this being a problem at all, anywhere, yet you jam it in here as an implicable explanation.

They're fighting a losing battle here.

The fanboys have already decided that these devs have a deep and abiding hatred for their beloved Sony, and they will continue to trash the game even if they lower the price. Between going multiplatform and now this, these guys have basically committed unforgiveable crimes in the eyes of the hardcore PS3 Nazi crowd.

There is no repairing the situation, so just suck it up and try to appeal the larger audience that doesn't know or care about this small price discrepancy. If they games is genuinely good, it will likely sell fine.

@Rockefellow When Sony charge for bandwidth and whoever is publishing the content controls the price of said content, can there really be any other reason for the price disparity?

It seems consistent with what publishers are doing across the board on PSN, I seem to remember that EA did the same for the Dead Space 2 DLC.

Only 800MSP, imo thats cheap judging from the little ive seen of this game.

But honestly if I only had a PS3 I wouldnt let the price that someone else is paying ruin my day. Been a UK gamer ild be eternally pissed at you US gamers and the pocket change prices you guys get away with.

@Jinxed Havoc I believe it has to come out later because they need to resubmit everything with a lower price to Sony. This will unfortunately have them miss the release date originally set.

@ everyone else: It took me a while to figure out was going on here, but this does just sound like poorly researched (or lazy) exchange rate issues. European game is about 10 euros on both xbox and playstation, which on xbox is 800 MS Points. They do the exchange rate of 10 euros to be about 12.99. Where they got into trouble was assuming that 800 MS points was going to be equal to the Euro price, at around $12.99, when it is actually $10 in US dollars. That's what it sounds like anyway.

Huh... Well... They're pretty stupid for not doing their research into currency exchange, especially since it should be the price of the 360's that goes up, but it's impossible for that, because M$ has such a strange way of pricing things. 800 MS points is about $12 in Euros, so they just adjusted the PSN price, to a wrong amount, like a bunch of idiots.

Like Rockefellow said, please don't be a retard. If it really was Sony charging for the bandwidth, then why didn't games before this also do this?? Also, one of the guys who created this game already said that the $3 price hike was because of Microsoft's retarded "points". So, Microsoft is all to be blamed.

What does price have to do with Release Date? Is it not complete and they were going to use the increased funds to finish the game post release?

@Oishidesu Price disparity between the two systems has been a persistent issue for over a year and has become a running joke on Eurogamer, I assumed it was the same situation on the US PSN but evidently not.

I just assumed (perhaps wrongly) that it was related to Sony admitting they charged for bandwidth on PSN back in 2009 (obviously may have changed now) and other things like Silent Hill getting pulled for two years due to it costing Konami more to host than they were making on the sales...

@Earthworm Jim: Obviously, a cross-platform title released on XBLA and PSN that is not utterly identical on both is discriminating against fans of one or both services.

It's like the Hatfields and McCoys every time Sony and MS are mentioned in the same article. It's embarrassing.
