Lexis Numérique recently announced the price and release date for their upcoming downloadable game, Amy. The survival horror title is set to drop next week, but that's not all fans have to be excited about. The developer announced the PSN version would cost $12.99, which seems like a deal until you hear that it's $2.99 more than the XBLA equivalent of 800 Microsoft points.
CEO José Sanchis says that the incongruity in price between consoles can be blamed on foreign exchange rates and the amorphous nature of Microsoft's moon bucks. While he argues that the game is worth much more than either asking price, Sanchis is content to let the fans decide the game's cost.
The French developer has set up a Facebook poll to let the fans decide whether or not the PSN price should remain or be reduced to $9.99. Sounds like an easy decision, but if the game receives a reduction Amy will need to be rescheduled for release at a later date. Ah, the bittersweet fruits of democracy.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
There will be a PC version, it's just delayed. I hope they make it $9 so all the 360 fans have something to whine about, too.
I wouldn't give two shits less if it was cheaper on pc. I think the lil fellas deserve it after pouring such ludicrous amounts into their rigs every year. Lil fellas gots to eat too ya know.
Probably both.
The fanboys have already decided that these devs have a deep and abiding hatred for their beloved Sony, and they will continue to trash the game even if they lower the price. Between going multiplatform and now this, these guys have basically committed unforgiveable crimes in the eyes of the hardcore PS3 Nazi crowd.
There is no repairing the situation, so just suck it up and try to appeal the larger audience that doesn't know or care about this small price discrepancy. If they games is genuinely good, it will likely sell fine.
It seems consistent with what publishers are doing across the board on PSN, I seem to remember that EA did the same for the Dead Space 2 DLC.
/obvious trolling
But honestly if I only had a PS3 I wouldnt let the price that someone else is paying ruin my day. Been a UK gamer ild be eternally pissed at you US gamers and the pocket change prices you guys get away with.
@ everyone else: It took me a while to figure out was going on here, but this does just sound like poorly researched (or lazy) exchange rate issues. European game is about 10 euros on both xbox and playstation, which on xbox is 800 MS Points. They do the exchange rate of 10 euros to be about 12.99. Where they got into trouble was assuming that 800 MS points was going to be equal to the Euro price, at around $12.99, when it is actually $10 in US dollars. That's what it sounds like anyway.
Are you kidding me?
I don't mind them keeping a higher price, as long as the game is worth it.
Time to go to 4SaleUSA to get some PSN codes.
Like Rockefellow said, please don't be a retard. If it really was Sony charging for the bandwidth, then why didn't games before this also do this?? Also, one of the guys who created this game already said that the $3 price hike was because of Microsoft's retarded "points". So, Microsoft is all to be blamed.

I just assumed (perhaps wrongly) that it was related to Sony admitting they charged for bandwidth on PSN back in 2009 (obviously may have changed now) and other things like Silent Hill getting pulled for two years due to it costing Konami more to host than they were making on the sales...
It's like the Hatfields and McCoys every time Sony and MS are mentioned in the same article. It's embarrassing.
