Back in 2000 I and everyone I knew was unbelievably excited for American McGee's Alice. Following the game's release we could all be found hovering over our keyboards, gleefully WASDing our way through McGee's twisted vision of Wonderland. Sure, Alice may not stand the test of time, but many of us have fond memories of that damned anorexic cheshire cat and for us the game remains iconic of that time.
So when word that a game based on the tales of the Brothers Grimm was being developed by American McGee's design house Spicy Horse I was, needless to say, more than a little excited. However this trailer is a bit of a disappointment. Yes the game looks cute, and it has an interesting art style, but I don't want cute from American McGee. I want the blood drenched fever dream of a mental patient distilled and packaged into 24 episodes for my GameTap downloading pleasure, and this trailer makes it seem as though I'll only have the latter.
Now I'll still definitely pick this up, especially if it comes to Xbox Live as McGee has alluded it might, and with R.J. Berg, the lead writer and executive producer for Alice, on board maybe I'll be surprised. But the sad fact remains that this really doesn't look like the horrific bastardization of classic fairy tales we've been hoping for.
I feel exactly the same way you do. I was looking for Grimm with that American McGee nightmarish twist. But I will still probably pick this up is it's on XBLArcade.
I'll still pick it up and love it.
But dammit, I wanted something more Alice like. Somebody should remake that game with some next gen polish, fuckin loved Alice.

Also, Psychonauts is what it reminded me of as well, and that's promising to me. Alice was fairly disappointing to me, though, especially once you really get into it, and I heard Scrapland bombed, so I'm doubtful anyway.
@yaisuah: Mentioned first in that sentence is what I wanted, mentioned second is the distribution method. Latter is defined as "being the second mentioned of two (distinguished from former)". Because I am not getting the first thing mentioned, but I am getting the second my usage was correct. Retard I may be, but my grasp on the definitions of common words is strong.
While you sure sounded bright in your response, I still think you are a 100% wrong and used it incorrectly. I've re-read it 5 times just to make sure, and you needed to say former to make any sense.

god I hope it doesn't suck as much as Bad Day L.A. i've lost all faith in anything with the American McGee name on it. (hell, to be honest, i didn't even like Alice all that much.)
I saw this trailer the other day and me reaction was "What the fuck is this shit?!". This looks like a port of some shitty PSX game. The gameplay looks boring, the fact it's over like 500 fucking episodes is retarded, it's got a terrible art style (Yay, cute, just what we wanted!).
I might be racking up the intertubes(whatEVER the hell that means), but I am still correct in that it was badly written. When using former and latter in a sentence it's normally too distinguish between too related but opposite options. The first obvious option to me was he mentions how the game is cute, former, and then in the next sentence says what he wants "blood drenched..." which is the latter of the two related but opposite options. I believe it was improper use of former and latter the way he meant it, he should have just said "I'll only be getting the 24 episodes", but he wanted to sound intelligent, which is normally the only reason someone tries to whip out the former and latter words. I know it might be hard to believe but I have a bachelors with a 3.9gpa, and a 4.0 in my English classes, I know good and bad English, this was clearly bad. Now give me another intertube.
The problem there with me is the American McGee name. I'm pretty sure that if came out just as "Grimm", from a random person, I would think it's great and not something below my expectations.

Technically he isn't wrong, but I agree that the way it was written can cause confusion, since he handles two set of ideas in the same paragraph to which "latter" could be referring to.

I truly thought the author made a typo in using latter and former, but after seeing that was his intention, I just had to stick up for my own belief that it was very awkwardly written. I also wasn't calling the author a retard but he took it that way, I was saying that to the guy that said the game looked retarded.
Now, I'll be honest, I had to look the word pedant up since I had never before in my life even seen the word, and after reading the definition, not only would you easily be classified as a pedant just for using the word, you are also inside-out asshole gay.
The only reason I stated my GPA is because the first thing people do is question ones level of schooling or age, clearly, just by stating that I have a 4.0gpa in English I have the authority to correct to English mistakes and call people gay.

Anyways, if the game plays as bad as it looks, count me out. I'm no graphics whore, but the art style makes this game look like a PSX title.
