American McGee's Alice 'Vorpal Blade' replica is nutty photo

To celebrate the 10-year anniversary of American McGee's Alice, Epic Weapons is announcing that it will be releasing a life-sized replica of the game's key weapon, the Vorpal Blade.

I'm not going to describe the 18 5/8" blade, because… just look at this thing. It's going to be available for pre-order purchase at Comic Con next week, with the first 25 blades going up for live auction from July 22 through July 22. You can pre-register for the auction starting today.

How much will one of the suckers set you back? The Vorpal Blade itself will run you $89.95; the special stand (where else are you going to put this thing?) is another $19.95. Only 1,000 are being made, so act fast. Your life will be that much richer for having this in your collection.

Is this the only way American McGee makes money nowadays? Because I'll be amazed if it's still from Bad Day LA royalties.

Forget the stand, I'll store it in the corpse of an enemy

The truly groundbreaking news here is that someone cared that it's the 10th anniversary of Alice.

Wouldn't it make more sense to re-release the game on Steam to celebrate? I for one would really like to play it...

@ DaedHead

This might shock you, but it doesn't need to be on Steam for you to play it.

No shit, but it's rather hard to find otherwise. They have it on amazon for $100+ for a new copy and I'm not about to put $30+ down on a used copy. Hence I have to wait for it to come to steam since I'm not a filthy pirate.

Daedhead has a point. Why not just bring the game back out. Its kind of silly to say hey here is a big ass weapon from a game you have to hunt down and pay a ton of money for or pirate. Who is running there company?

And (gasp) wouldn't American McGee stand to make some money off of Steam sales? It has been years, and the news of the sequel has likely generated interest. What better way to capitalize upon that new interest by rereleasing said game on the cheap? New people get to experience the game legally, and the people behind it get some money too.

I feel like I will also need to go onto Craig's list and find a virgin willing to be sacrificed to McGee after I buy it.

It'll totally be worth it though.

@ DeadHead

The discs alone I have seen go for $10 a bunch of times.

Try the demo before buying it. The art style and graphics were groundbreaking for the day, and the grimmer take on the Alice in Wonderland universe was -- and is -- intriguing, but the game suffers from horrible jumping controls and clunky combat.

Awesome knife. Top of my list for things I should buy to expedite being arrested.

Rock this knife with the Sonic Colors pre-order hat, and you have an appropriate cosplay of what a old Sonic fan has been through over the years. ;)

Any large kitchen knife is a replica. Don't need to shell out $110. :\

My memory of this game is shallow but I remember falling a lot and turning it off.

Besides, if anyone would bother to read Charles Dodgson's original works such 'edgy' re-imaginings are utter trash.

Wouldn’t it be better to commamorate Alice by having it re-released digitally at gog.com or something?

It's a *terribly ornate* kitchen knife, not a regular one.

A re-release certainly wouldn't hurt, although Chaddicus describes the game quite accurately. A couple of years ago, I found the budget version for £3 on a market stall ;-)
