American McGee's Alice is coming back with a fresh coat of paint, and we have a brand new teaser trailer to prove it. Return of Alice will be a remake of the original game, courtesy of Electronic Arts, and has a release date of 2011 slated. Yeah, we know, that's ages.
It'll be a long wait, but this creepy new trailer should keep you going. It uses the ancient tradition of stop-motion animation for maximum weirdness, and really is quite the cool little video. Check it out and let us know if you're excited for Alice's big comeback.
triumphofhearts: No I don't. I make the occasional mistake since I write at least ten stories a day. Thanks for pointing it out, but dude, calm down. <3
though that trailer... blah... the animation work makes my eye's bleed...
i prefer the original trailer
"but i don't want to go among Mad people"
"Oh you can't help that, we're all Mad here"
This was a phenomenal game that I always wished more people had played so they could appreciate it, too. I'd be content with a simple re-release but I'm anxious to see what kinds of enhancements they end up making.
I remember when I had first played this game back in the day... I thought for sure this American Mcgee guy was going to become one of my favorites (despite the lame fact that he puts his name in the title). But, then every other game he's put out so far has been completely lackluster.
So, I suppose if you're going to be a one hit wonder in the gaming world.. why not release that one hit every decade or so?
"The problem with making a dark and disturbing version of Alice in Wonderland is that it's pretty dark and disturbing to begin with, which gives it little training wheels that help cultural firebrands ride it into geniusdom once every eighteen months or so. Masterminding a trippy reinterpretation of Lewis Carroll is like making a version of Crazy Traxi, only crazy! At this point, about the edgiest thing you could do with Alice in Wonderland is try to make it a little less fucking insane."

Well, this is odd...
Is it really a remake? Because as I listen to the "doctor's" notes, it would seem as if though the ending of the first game went through without a hitch. After all, he says "It's been 3 months since her recovery and relapse".
Meaning, she got out of the mental hospital (a la ending of the first game) and 3 months later she got effed up all over again and had to be admitted to the asylum *again*.
Why would they include that little juicy tidbit if it were simply a remake of the first game? :|
Not that I really mind, of course... I *love* that damned game with a passion and beat it more times than I can remember or count. I know I certainly wouldn't mind playing a remake, but I personally think that a sequel would be something more alluring...
I'm going to possibly sacrifice my testicles and ask: what was American McGee's Alice? I've heard of the game, but I've never bothered to hunt it out or anything. Can someone fill me in on what I'm missing out on?
HOORAY! One of my favorite pc games ever, though it hasn't aged well (kind of like Deus Ex); although really I loved the music more than anything (to the point where I had to track down the soundtrack)
Sweet. I loved the first game, and I've been following this one since the day it was announced. I'd be thrilled to play a PS3 version, even if I was kind of hoping for a sequel.
The game takes place after the Alice we all know by Lewis Carroll. Her house burned down, her family was killed, she tried to kill herself, and she somehow ended up in a coma. The white rabbit comes back to visit Alice and off they go again, only this time Wonderland is completely effed up. Basically it's alice in wonderland + blood + craziness + awesomeness. The level designs were really fantastic. I'd say it's part platformer, part action game.
This excited me to end for a million reasons one major one being I like kids things being raped into creepy thongs and Lewis Carrol's Alice's Adventures In Wonderland is to this day the best thing I have ever read.
The first one was a rather boring whack-a-mole platformer. While the environment was fun to explore, the combat was limp and repetitive. I hope there is something here more fun than bashing anything in sight with a mallet.
Alice Looked awesome but it was a bit of a crappy game (seriously, who uses the quake 3 engine to make a crappy action/platformer? yeah, i know, ritual did it too...) and after Scrapland and Bad Day L.A., I've pretty much sworn that anything bearing the name "American Mcgee" on the cover is something to stay as far, far, far away from as is possible.
I Looooooved the original game, and have replayed portions of it, just because my Old PC is and was able to max the resolution. Awesome game, but I hope they spice the remake up with a little different or expanded fun.
I'll still likely buy this remake, since it's been so long since I did a full playthrough.
If this does turn out to be a sequel, then I think the original should be re-released somehow. Perhaps as a PSN/XBLA/Steam game. Or even include it with the new one (though maybe that would be a bit much to ask for).
