Amazon offers Animal Crossing City Folk for $20 photo
  share: Twitter Facebook Reddit Digg

Animal Crossing is such an addictive series of games that I've made a concerted effort to avoid the Wii installment. It's better for my health, which would really suffer from me obsessing over collecting fossils and paying that bastard Nook. Now that Amazon has offered the game for $20 today, it may be too enticing to resist any longer.

It's a Deal of the Day, so make sure you hop on over and grab it now if you're interested. This is the standalone version, meaning that it doesn't come bundled with the WiiSpeak accessory. That's even worse for me, as the bundled accessory was repellant enough on its own to keep me away.

If you guys don't see me for a few weeks, could you send someone around to my place to make sure that I'm not sitting on my couch, unbathed, wearing tattered clothes and muttering, "just one more fish," as I limply waggle a remote in my hand? I would really appreciate it.

I too have been avoiding City Folk for just about the same reasons. The game took over my life for about six months, twice.

I never bothered with this game, came across like such a lazy sequal.

I'm really good about balancing my Animal Crossing time with the rest of my day. I've never been big on earning lots of Bells in a day, so I just take about 15 minutes to water the flowers, hit some rocks, see what's at Nook's/Ables, talk to my neighbors, maybe fish out a key or two, and plant a Bell tree for some quick money, if I've got the extra cash on me. It's a great game, and I do spend hours playing it when I've got the time, but it's a really great game to just spend a few minutes with each day. I'm not sure how some people (like my mother, who can spend hours with fishing alone) get so carried away with it, but then again, I might be the only one who doesn't mind that it's been almost a year and they're still living in a tiny house.

I never have played an AC title but my friends range from 30 minute sessions to relax after class and, skipping class, work and falling asleep on the couch with the Wii remote clasped in their hands at 4 A.M.

So while I know its a quality experience I'll pass on it. Even if the low price does make me really want to reach for my debit-card.

Best of luck though, Conrad.

I tried out AC myself on the GC and just didn't find it an experience that took over my life. instead, WoW did. Sighhhh

Just ordered it. It's the perfect gift for my sister...and since it's with her and not me, I won't become addicted to it...I hope.

I haven't played this in months. I think everyone in my town is probably dead. :(

An addictive series of games? Surely you mean, one addictive game that was ported a few times.

@Zeno
I'm sorry you're in the wrong article. Jim Sterling posted about Dynasty Warriors last week. We're talking about Animal Crossing.

Wait...

Bad, Nintendo, bad! You already trapped me with Animal Crossing and Pokemon, twice each! Stop tempting me!

Now it's even more annoying than ever. Only a portion of the screen is available, you keep stretching your neck to see under the TV's visible area. You use the hop around jumping pointer to chase a finger all over the place. And as a Wii game, it only has limited space for players, and you can't play it from a memory card. High speed Internet access and you can go to someone else's town,

FINALLY! It's closer to its true worth. I love the game, but they only used HALF a GB. Yeah, that's right .49 GBs of nothing on this stupid game. They could have added much more text to this game and I'd still be playing it. I got bored after only a week. I already had the second- to last biggest house. Which could be bigger, it's tiny. I have so much crap and I can only fit a fourth of it in my little house.

I just wish they would have tried. Even the DS version was better than this.
