As for the rental options, if the movies were the same price as a Red Box, I'd use the rental options more often. There's no way I'm going to pay $4 to stream a video for an incredibly short amount of time when I can rent a DVD or BDD for $1-2 (and possibly get special features).
I'm glad it's now on PS3, though!
A lot of people mention Amazon Student in regards to more than just shipping -- unfortunately, Student doesn't grant you access to Instant Videos.
@Ultro
I've found that Prime has about 70% (or more) of Netflix's current stable. It used to be much lower, but with all the deals they're stealing/co-developing with Netflix's partners, it's getting more competitive. You probably won't notice much -- I just keep Netflix for a few choice shows, then cancel it on and off.
I wonder how long it will be before Amazon overtakes Netflix's streaming library. Maybe a year and a half?
That, and the content providers have reasons to play ball with Amazon. Amazon actually sells content, be it digital rentals and physical discs.
Netflix currently does neither, so I'm not surprised if the content providers would be colluding to starve Netflix.
dang, thanks for the heads up! wish i had known about this a week ago when i bought a bunch of crap on amazon - better late than never i guess.
@Chris Carter
amazon student gives you a 50% discount on amazon prime. says it right there in the link you posted.
Right! For some reason I misread the initial comment and thought that he stated you could get videos with Student Prime.
Yea, you can get a discount for Prime with Student.
If you've never linked your .edu address to Prime, you get your first year for free. At least... that's how it normally is at the beginning of the school year.
I can't find that one the info page, but I know that used to be a promotion. Either way, it's much easier to just leech a "Core" Prime sub off of a family member or friend - up to 4 people can "share" a Prime account, unlike Netflix, or other VOD services.
Alternatively, you could just split the cost 4 ways, and not deal with the Student restrictions for the remaining 3 years after your initial 1 year bonus.
