Looks like Little Johnny Unlucky (aka me) won't be receiving his Wii for Christmas. I, like hundreds of others, ordered my Wii (bundled with Madden 07, an official SD card, and an extra remote and nunchuck) from Amazon.com on November 30. As some of you may imagine, I was immensely excited when I put the order through; Wiis were sold out, literally, all over America. I'll admit it, I did a fist pump. But, two weeks later, I'm still a very unhappy camper. Actually, that was put very lightly. I'm more of a borderline homicidal camper right now.
Why you ask? Hit the jump to find out!
Disgruntled after I noticed that my Wii had not shipped five days after I ordered it, I prepared myself to contact the Devil, himself -- Amazon.com customer service, that is. The demon on the other side was actually not as demonic as I had first thought she would be. She answered my questions nicely and then went to check on my order.
"Your Wii's [I had ordered two, one for my girlfriend and one for me] don't exist."
The next few minutes consisted of a few ethnic slurs, a "damn it to hell!" and certainly a "what are you talking about 'they don't exist?'" After making nice with the lady on the other side (I admitted it wasn't her fault after the bitch started crying), she left the phone again to go check on my order.
"Ahaa!" she said. "Your Wiis are sitting here and will be shipped tomorrow."
I thanked the woman furiously, convinced that I had just sealed the deal on my two bundles. Boy, was I wrong.

After two more days waiting on the "Shipping Soon" status to disappear, I got impatient once again. This time, a man answered the phone. He gave me the same BS that the first lady gave me; he said that there was a "technical error" with our shipment and that it would be shipping the next day. I fell into his trap -- he sounded very convincing -- and believed him.
Days later, I called the Devil back, this time becoming very agitated; Christmas was coming up soon and, because of the huge amount of items shipped at this time, I might end up getting it after December 25. This time, an extremely nice and apologetic woman answered the phone. She told me the truth;
"We don't have any Wiis."
"What?!" I responded.
"It's a technical error on Nintendo's part. They told us that we would have more Wiis than we actually got. That and God hates you."
All joking aside, I was furious. How can they sell things, and then claim to have them, when they don't have them? Growling at her from my side of the phone, I expressed my dissatisfaction with her, Amazon and the entire ordeal. She said she would throw in a $30 gift certificate and free two-day shipping ($60) just for me having to go through this. I fell into the trap once again.
I went through the same process one more time a couple days later, hoping that by getting on their nerves, they would give up and send me my Wiis. I was sure that they were stocked away somewhere in a warehouse in the middle of nowhere. This time, after explaining my situation, the demon on the other end told me he would place me onto the "priority list" and assured me that I would be among the first to receive my Wiis once a new shipment came in. Yeah, I knew that it was complete bullshit, but I couldn't do anything more.
So, if you do decide to try and snipe a Wii off of Amazon.com, DO SO AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION. Sure, I understand that it's the holiday season and that Amazon is under a lot of stress (insert sarcasm here), but it is straight bull that they can do this and get away with it. I've been waiting over two and a half weeks for them to ship my Wii, and I'm not even sure that they will before Christmas. Oh well, I guess there's not much more that I can do than wait it out.
Has this happened to any of you? Are you stuck in my position? What do you think about this?
[UPDATE: Well, it finally shipped this morning. Problem is, they WOULDN'T change it to two day shipping like I was initially promised and they couldn't provide a tracking number for the package. So, pretty much this order is up in the air as to when it is it will get here. Another problem is that I'm leaving school to go home on Monday and can't change where it's shipping to unless I have a tracking number (I originally shipped it to school because I figured I would be there when it got there). So, bottom line: Fuck Amazon.]
i Laughed :)
Recommendation: Move to a smaller country.
Hope it works out for you pre-xmas!
attack bezos for amazon. if you're gonna be furious, at least be accurate.
I don't think there is anything artificial about it. :)
Good luck!
And as for the Nintendo Wii SD that's a complete rip... 2gb for $99 please... You can get a 2gb SD card for $25 on newegg.com, and even cheaper if you find a sale.
I was in EBGames asking when they'd be getting more in. I had already convinced myself that I wouldn't be getting one until after Christmas, so I expected them to be out. A guy who came into the store a minute or so behind me said, "Which console are you looking for?"
"I'm just finding out when they're getting more Wiis in."
"Target just got ten of them in an hour ago." Target happens to be is in the same plaza. Sure enough, I went over, figuring that they'd all be gone by then. They still had six of them on the floor, ready for new owners ... okay, they had five on the floor after I left. :)
Just keep calling around. You never know if you'll get lucky with one.
They said it would ship on the 7th which it didn't. I used the email support box to ask question because I learned about he Amazon-Target connection and saw some people who ordered on the 30th, like you, who hadn't had it shipped yet.
I was told via email that there was a "technically difficulty” with my order and it would be shipped soon. (AMAZING!) So I checked on the 8th to no avail so I just waited out the weekend. On the 10th they changed my estimated shipment arrival from the 12th-15th to the 14th-20th. This worried me so I sent another email stating that I was worried about my order because I had seen other people who were complaining theirs hadn't been shipped yet either and that I really wanted assurances that my order would ship. I got an email back telling me there is just a little delay and that I *WILL* have it before the 25th.
On the 11th I called and talked to some clown who said "Your order should be shipped either the 10th or the 11th. If you call tomorrow we will be glad to get your tracking number." I then got an email from this person again assuring me my order would arrive in the 14th - 20th date range.
I called later in the afternoon again to get a tracking number and they still couldn't get me one. I explained to the guy that I ordered when there was stock and my order went through before it went out of stock so there shouldn't be a problem. He told me that he would contact their fulfillment center and get back to me the morning of the 13th.
Well...I am not holding my breath. They have a hold on my money basically since with Target you can't cancel your order so if I take the money to try and get one somewhere else they could suddenly ship it and charge me and screw my bank. This is the only present my 2 kids have asked for from Santa so I guess this is the year they learn that Santa doesn't exist.
Also hearing about all this stuff with companies cs phone help just boggles me mind... Why do people continue to do their business at these places??
I work for a multi billion dollar company and when ANYONE calls in with a complaint I am REQUIRED to give them whatever they ask for. Granted it's in the food business and the stuff there is cheaper...
But seriously, ANYONE here can call up a fast food restaurant with some bogus claim about not receiving something with their order and get a letter in the mail two days later for something free, usually whatever you ask for.
Customer service is all about making sure everyone who calls walks away knowing they are right, even if they know they are lieing.
RUSH to Toys R Us and Target!
I did last night and Toys R Us had TWO full rows of Wiimotes(no nunchucks though). I picked me up four (one for both my brothers and two for me).
Then some mom said she saw Nunchucks at Target(she was looking for a system), so I went there and didn't see any so I asked a worker and he came out with an arms load so I grabbed four. They also had some Wiimotes on racks too.
But if you want the Wii Console...Dec 17, go to Best Buy.
Anyhow, long story short it shipped this morning. So unless you're on some kind of nintendo killswitch and need it in T-2 seconds, you might want to just kick back, leave the CS reps alone, and hope for the best. Zen!
I picked some nice combo racial and female slurs and included her kids implying something about their skulls and told her to cancel it. I also informed her if they touched my bank account I would sue the pants off them.
