Ian Milham, the Art Director on Dead Space, was at the International Festival of Animation & Computer Games over in the UK earlier this month where he showed off Dead Space. Dead Space for the original Xbox that is. Wait … what?

Apparently at some point, Dead Space was going to be for the original Xbox and it actually looked really good. So good that I can now believe that the upcoming Wii version of Dead Space won’t look like complete crap.

A lot of the features that we’ve come to know and love in Dead Space are present in this Xbox demo. There’s gravity, dismemberment, time manipulation, a holographic HUD system and the action looked pretty solid.

Check out one more clip after the jump showing off the early dismemberment system. Is anyone else as impressed as I am watching this video of the Xbox demo?

I'd probably believe you if you told me this was a sequel to last year's.

He said that the character was completely different. What?

It's the same fucking guy. Everything's the same, in terms of visual design anyway. It looks like a grainy youtube version of the 360 game.

If it looks like that on Wii I will be both impressed and ecstatic.

Also, that dismemberment demo is awesome.

He looks a little bulkier to me, more shoulders than head.

The new one gave him more of a human touch.

Very impressive especially on the original xbox, now we know that there's a chance the wii version won't look terrible.

Man, seems you guys forgot how good Xbox graphics were back before the 360 came out. I remember seeing HALO (1) and being impressed. Do we really have that short of a memory?

god... the only difference i can make from this game and the 360 version is that the 360 is far brighter.... having said that, they didnt really add anything new to the 360 version did they!?

I think people forget how powerful the Xbox was. Look at games like Riddick or Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. Those games still look fantastic.

No, no, NO!!! The Wii version is going to suck. Totally.

The box is completely underpowered; the graphics are PHAIL, PHAIL, PHAIL compared to the über-powered 360/PS3. My God, it can't even do true HD, which we all know is a requirement for any game to be good nowadays! The Wii is for people who only think they're gamers but are really a bunch of girlies with penises.

This is DToid -- the PINNACLE of "Graphics > Gameplay"! Speak not positive things of the Wii!

I love seeing footage like this. It's interesting to see the transitions between consoles in such situations, and the general evolution of the game during creation. If you also get your rocks off on stuff like this, check out Unseen64 for lots of unreleased and beta game content.

I'd recognize the Aliens soundtrack anywhere. I guess they weren't that far along and just tagged on something that worked.

weird. how long were they working on this before they decided to make it "next gen" multiplatform. they must have hit a snag somewhere.

To everybody saying that this looked good for original xbox graphics: based on what? You can't see anything in this video besides writhing blackness. :(

That was awesome. I would have bought that for the XBOX [i]and[/] the PS3. But since I already beat it on the PS3, I won't buy it for the Wii. It just doesn't work like that.

That looked pretty good for the original Xbox. Imagine what the scores and reception would be like if got a release back then.
