I've never seen Eagle Eye, the action thriller starring Shia LeBouf that hit theaters earlier this year. So really, I don't know how this alternate ending -- which can be found on the film's DVD and Blu-ray release -- compares to what actually happened in the final cut.

But man, this is horrible. LeBouf and his co-star, Michelle Lynn Monaghan, are sharing some sort of tender moment when ... cut to kids playing Rock Band. Wait, what? The whole thing just feels odd and forced, but considering the films distributor is DreamWorks Pictures who owns Viacom who in turn owns MTV ... it's not that that surprising.

This is, of course, a "spoiler" as I assume it gives away something about the film's plot (it is an ending, after all). But if you're looking for an example of awkward product placement and what might have been a good reason to not buy Rock Band, have at it.

I wonder how many of Destructoid's articles are based off of Keighley's Twitter.

Oh Nick. I don't know what's worse; the article pointing out how much of a horrible slow news day it is, or the fact you got it from Geoff Keighley's Twitter.

Are you saying something with Shia LeBouf in it was somehow not the greatest thing ever? Mr. Chester you have lost any and all credibility you once had.

I'm a little confused. Doesn't it actually show some kind of cliff hanger? I'm sorry but I really just don't see that as much of a commercial or anything.

Well the 'Bad Guy' is the biggest rip off of Glad0s anyway. ..

And in the normal ending you still see him give her the Rock Band Box so its still a horrible ad, with no wrapping as well!- poor form.

"...but considering the films distributor is DreamWorks Pictures who owns Viacom who in turn owns MTV ... it's not that that surprising."

Just to clarify, Viacom owns both Paramount and MTV. Paramount, in turn, owns DreamWorks' live-action studio. Nonetheless, the implication you're making is still relevant.

So glad I fought the hype and didn't see this one. But, a movie has to look really fucking good for me to see it in theaters. I probably won't even Netflix this one.

I suppose I do have to speak up here for a moment. Speaking as someone who's seen this theme hundreds of times in novels and scifi and even audio plays, it was at least fun to see Steven Spielberg's take on the theme. And for the first time in a LONG time, Steven didn't give a shit about collatoral body count. I actually enjoyed Eagle Eye up until the end....

Not the rockband product placement. Seriously, this is Spielberg, watch fucking ET, grow a pair, and then tell me product placement was somehow unexpected of this director. But instead I hated the happy ending. Shia's character should have died the matyr in the concert (Spoiler).

As for claiming the bad guy was a glados rip off... FUCK, READ A GODDAM BOOK! "Teh AI is watching" has been a common theme in scifi since before Ray Bradbury. Glados was mocking, this AI was all business. This is like saying Predator totally ripped off Contra because they both feature gon toting idiots in a forest. Jesus christ! NOTHING YOU THINK IS NEW AND UNIQUE IS NEW AND UNIQUE! So the "this ripped off that" arguement at it's core is a denizen for retards.

He was the executive producer.

I worked on the back end of the movie. When I saw that ending during the dailies, I rolled my eyes so far back my vision blacked out for a second, lol

I was so happy when a few weeks later I heard it'd be cut.

I mean, what the fuck is half an AI going to do with a little kid when she couldn't use all of the CIAs resources to overthrow the government.

He was executive producer and early trailers kept calling it a spielberg film, or presented by spielberg.

This movie terrible, but it's fucking hilarious. Rock Band is still in the ending. I saw it at the cheap theater. It's about on par with Snakes on a Plane, just not as hilarious.

I just saw this movie yesterday, and the alternate ending right after. And before I saw this alternate ending, I was pretty disappointed that they didn't use this cliche of a "dead" villain coming to "life" at the very end of the movie. But way to redeem yourself with this mess Hollywood.

Also, I heard somewhere Spielberg enjoys Rock Band with his family, that's why this almost ended up in the movie.

I hated Eagle Eye.

I don't mind product placement if it makes sense, like Apple does on most movies were the internet is used. But that Rock Band scene was def forced. Good thing it was cut.
