Assassin’s Creed cover boys Ezio and Altair may dress the same and share similar mannerisms, but we’re told that the two are totally different people. For example, Ezio has two wrist-strapped knives while Altair doesn’t. Also, Ezio likes to have fun, unlike Altair, who was a major bummer at our Halloween party last weekend with all his moping about being stuck in a sinister building all day long.

In the latest developer commentary for Assassin’s Creed II -- available above, of course -- the people behind the game attempt to tell us that Ezio and Altair are different sorts of people. The support for the statement is weak. Yes, Ezio is a bit testy after daddy visits the gallows one fateful morning, and yes, he does have two knives, but we haven’t seen Ezio do anything that Altair wouldn’t -- at least, not yet.

Well, unless that whole Da Vinci flying thing and his ability to jump in not-a-haystack counts as a personality trait. We’ll see, we suppose, closer to the game’s release this November.

Different time period, ancestor. Why do they need to remind people?

Nope, same guy.

Also, yay for cotton. I love it when the add is 100 decibels louder than the video. Really makes me want to run out to the store and buy... cotton.

I haven't seen a single cotton ad. By the sounds of things, that's a good thing.

I think this story for Ezio is gonna be really good. I dunno about the whole future thing, but Im curious to find out more Ezio's life. Revenge stories are classic.

Well to be honest the characters' are different in gameplay given how many weapons Ezio can utilize, and his style of melee is more brutal and less fencing. Their motivations are different, but hey thats how they designed them...

These two are about as different as the two guys in the last Devil May Cry.
I loved the first AC, this one only looks like a better game on every level and I'm confident will be a lot of fun, but different time period or not, unless they make him behave flamboyantly homosexual...these are the same personalities given all that they've shown.
Sure, game ain't out yet, but I could tell before with Devil May Cry previews the only difference truly was their weapon set. Same thing here.
Personally, I'd be estatic if Ezio spoke Ebonics. Just picture THAT!
