Alpha Protocol: buy guns and grow beards in safehouses photo

Michael Thornton doesn’t dive into dumpsters or cower in dilapidated buildings when he’s in trouble. No -- Alpha Protocol’s protagonist seeks refuge in only the finest sanctuaries. Below the fold is a big first look at the shelters -- referred to as safehouses -- Thornton uses to prepare for the next mission or, apparently, relax for the time it takes to grow a flowing grizzly-man beard. (Just kidding; beard growth is immediate.)

Safehouses are above ground Batman Bases. They have goliath supercomputers that Thornton can use to check his e-mail (a novel way to stay in touch and make moral choices), buy weapon and upgrades, and check mission details. They also have magic mirrors (which can be used to alter Thornton’s appearance), Transformers-style weapons lockers, and even come rigged with videophone capabilities.

They’re probably themed, too. The video focuses on a very Rome-y Rome safehouse.

Thornton lives safely in style, but we’re not quite sure the man can dress for the job. Wearing a cap backwards while killing terrorists? That’s so late Winter 2008.

It's about time beards got the justice they deserve in videogames.

The world would be a better place if every man had a nice beard.

The "fury" skill looked a little goofy, but it looks like the game is shaping up to be one I would play through a few times to try different things and then come back to later on.

I have a beard myself, and I do appreciate myself a good manbeard. I think all games should allow you to instantly grow gigantic beards. That's why I loved Fallout 3 so much. Good job, Obsidian, sticking up for the hardcore working-class beard aficionado.

I wonder: will your fashion choices actually have an effect on gameplay? Say you were doing the stealthy approach to a mission. Would dressing in the local fashion allow you to better blend in to a crowd, or is it merely cosmetic?

Interesting concept, X-angwin8r. I really hope so. Because if I'm in some backwoods shitfuck-nowhere Canadian beast wilderness, I want to look the part. After all, I think I will go full stealth in this game, because it sounds orgasmic. And we all know how badass it would be to orgasm while dressed as a burly asian-looking leather-clad lumberjack.

I hadn't been paying attention to this until now. This looks hot. I love stealth, I love RPGs, I can dig it.

I really like this game the more I hear about it. Even so, I can't shake that nagging possibility that the hype might be better than the actual product like when I bought Splinter Cell: Double Agent for the PC.

I like the idea of the beard (I have a well kept one myself) as an option for ones character, but that's a dirty looking hobo beard from what I can see. There's bit's of green and red/orange in there. What the hells up with that lol? jk! :P

Still, props to the developers. This is in my top 5 for the games I can't wait to play coming out within the next year!

That's a pretty good looking beard, graphically that is.
Most games only offer very minimal choices, that don't blend into the hair very well (Looking at YOU Fallout 3)

It would be pretty awesome if the NPCs reacted to how you dressed/looked. If you need to smooth talk your handler... don't do it with a beard that could kill a whole town. Want drum up sympathy from an NPC, show up super disheveled.

Your weapon is choice, your choice is fashion... your weapon is fashion.
