Alpha Protocol arriving Spring 2010, Obsidian is happy photo

Sega as good as confirmed Alpha Protocol's slip into next year when it updated its official site to read, "Spring 2010," but developer Obsidian has now confirmed the confirmation with a reconfirmation, adding that they're glad the delay has been pushed back since more time and effort can be put into the making the game.

"Alpha Protocol is a new take on the RPG genre and from day one the team has been working to make Alpha Protocol a truly unique game for players to experience," explains Obsidian boss Feargus Urquhart. "We're very happy that Sega has made the decision to hold back the shipment of the game in order to give it the best chance at becoming the publishing success that we at Obsidian and our partners at Sega are striving for".

Sega Europe MD Alan Pritchard adds: "Alpha Protocol has been a very promising title since the beginning of the development cycle. By pushing Alpha Protocol to Spring 2010, we can ensure that the game will be released in the best commercial release window possible and will also receive the focus this true AAA titles deserves."

I still think this has something to do with that leaked Sega document where Alpha Protocol was accused of "Not being RPG enough" and compared unfavorably to Mass Effect. Either way, I'm hoping this will be good. It looked very promising at E3.

The worst of this is how late Sega's PR team have reacted. They could've given abit more notice eh?

This is nearly as much a mess as the Aliens: CM and AvP confusion they've been having. Then again, Sega are pretty much a mess all over.

And then Feargus Urquhart rose from his skull-covered throne to pillage the surrounding lands and crush the weak under his mighty boot.

Seriously, how cool is that name?

I have high hopes for the game, but the delay and the criticisms Sega had for the game caused me to lose confidence in the game. I had Steam cancel / refund my pre-order.

I'll just wait and see with this one.

Can't wait for Mass Effect 2. This is about Mass Effect right?

They better ship this before Mass Effect 2. That's going to be this game's best chance at success. It's a shame that this game is missing the fall window. It could've filled that Mass Effect fix for those that don't want to wait until March.

I hope this game rocks. It looks very promising. But Obsidian has been in Bioware's shadow since they started. It's odd that they'd create something for their first original IP that so closely resembles a Bioware product.

A Spring 2010 delay would probably put it right up against Mass Effect 2. A little risky to be putting both titles around the same time, I think. Oh well, I'm sure Alpha Protocol will turn out great.

So long as they do what Sony says.

What Sega says, and it's not going to be in Q1.

Not Q1 if the earlier rumour of June is correct.

Well, that might just be pushing it far enough away from Mass Effect in the other direction then. Either way, I'm still excited for this game. Mass Effect is probably my favorite game so far this gen. Saying that this game looks a lot like ME is high praise in my book.

The fact that it was compared to Mass Effect just made me want it more. I don't give a shit how 'RPG' it is, I just want to play it. As long as the shooting is solid and the customizations options make it in tact, I'm interested. And the dialog too.
